... I wonder if we might look at Jacques Reeves at safety again, at least in certain situations.

I'm not talking about Brown being a world-beater right off the bat, but he does seem to have all the athletic ability to play corner in the NFL. If he could make the team and be the backup RCB, I wonder if Reeves might make a better safety. I've loved the Reeves pick from the start (excellent speed being the Big Ten 100m champ, plus good size), but IMO he doesn't have the hips to be a very good long-term corner. But he is fast, is big enough, is obviously tough enough to tackle from his work on ST, and could cover man to man at S -- which we all know has been a huge sore spot for us at that position.

I know Parcells toyed with the idea... I wonder if we might revisit it.

Then Reeves or Jones will be gone.

And by end of next season we will know about Hamlin and Watkins so it might be a moot point. If Brown makes the team, Nate Jones is gone. We just need to know whether Brown has enough talent that with time to develop he is a potential NFL starter.

I wasn't really impressed with any one Dallas has on the roster for FS so it might be worth a shot but I think Reeves wasn't comfortable with it and Bill was just checking his options. I am still hoping we might find a cap cut somehow somewhere later before camp.

Perfectly logical with one flaw. It's been tried and I guess we can assume it didn't work out. As bad as our FS's were last year, I think Parcells would have stuck with the idea if he saw any potential/progress.

I think it makes sense over the long range.

I've become something of a Reeves fan. I thought he did a very decent job when pressed into DB duty last year.

I guess it may come down to: how much and how quickly do people trust Brown?

I'm excited that the Cowboys got Brown. He has the CB measurables, so he has a chance. Can't ask much more of the 7th round than that.

I don't know that Reeves failed the audition. A few guys were already in the mix at FS. Health was an issue at CB.

I'm thinking there is a great chance that Parcells decided that it just wasn't the right time for the audition (rather than Reeves was unworthy of an audition).

we certainly will have to make a decision on jones and reeves after this year as both are f.a.'s. my guess is reeves stays and replaces glenn and in a yr or two henry goes to safety. nice way to extend his career and he does turn 32 this year.
it will be alot to ask of the kid to do much this year but we should know what he has to work on atleast but if he could be a solid contributer right away then we are in fine shape

I don't disagree with the logic either, I was in favor of it last year when it was tried. I still contend the FS was so horrible last year that Parcells would have done just about anything if he thought he could have improved it. I don't think he would have worried about timing.

I think it would be silly not to consider it... your FS today better be able to run and cover just like a corner

The only thing is, you do need backup corners, and last year Reeves pretty much had to be one. Who else would back up besides Glenn? (Nate Jones is as spare as spare gets, IMO.)

Just saying that if the coaching staff determines that our best four corners are going to be Newman, Henry, Glenn, and Brown, I'd try Reeves at S, at least situationally.

I think Courtney Brown is going to be a steal in this year's draft. He's got the ball skills and the speed to make it....

If Brown pans out than either Reeves or Jones go. I've always been a fan of bothe Reeves and Jones but, I think Brown has the tools to be ten times a better player than them.
