If Dak hits open market this year, does anyone think he would get 40m+ per year?

I’ll follow-up with my opinion that trading 2 first rounders for another QB in the league or draft is really dumb. There is no QB who can win anything of significance if we give away our resources for building up our defense. Our drafts the next two years need to focus primarily, not exclusively, on defense if we hope to ever make noise in the playoffs.

I'm not inclined to guess what Dak may sign for, but it must be acceptable to both parties.

Otherwise, it shouldn't ever be signed. After all, that's just what agreements are all about.

It's fairly easy to conjure up $$ amounts as spectators but those living with it matter most.

In most contracts, those directly involved in the process may compromise and then agree.

    This....

For some reason people don't understand. Yes, it seems ridiculous to pay that much for a QB that isn't top three. But in two years, it's a bargain.

    Look at Garappolo....

Nope, nobody outside of Dallas thinks he's more than an average QB. For some reason, anyone that wears the Star automatically moves into the top-5 player at their position locally.

Exactly, the cap nor player salaries are static, each year a new crop of FA hit the market. couple of years ago Rodgers was sitting at the top but as FA QB came up for contracts Rodgers deal was no longer the highest paid. New FA hit the market and that does drive the price. People are acting as if the cap is frozen and there is a standard pay scale but that is not how things operate in the NFL.

Is Garrapolo a bargain right now? I think they are trying to get rid of him.

Garrapolo, Wentz and Goff are poster boys against signing QB to deals that are too much of a percentage of the teams cap.

I think he probably would, but whatever team that pays it will not be a good team going forward because of a couple reason.

    1. They won't have Zeke, Pollard, Lamb, Gallup, and Cooper making Dak look better then he probably is.

    And

    2. They won't be able to afford any help around him to be competitive.

If Dak truly wants to win then his best bet would be to stay in Dallas with all these weapons and leave the FO enough money to get defensive help. I don't see that happening though. I believe he goes where the money is and his "legacy" will suffer for it, but hey, he'll be wealthy which will ease the pain of being ridiculed.

He was considered a riser until his injury. He took the Niners to the Super Bowl.

What I am saying is that no one considers his contract to be HUGE now. It set the market back in the day....as did the contract of Cousins. Yes, Dak will set the market. But in two years, it won't be a big deal anymore.

    That's how it works.

It's not a coincidence that Brady has 7 rings and been to 10 Super Bowls while never being a huge cap hit on his teams. That man just wants to win.

Pretty sure nobody is crediting Jimmy G for that super bowl appearance. They were winning in spite of him.

Zeke is under contract, Cooper is under contract and Lamb will be in the 2nd year of a rookie deal. Gallup yes could be a casualty but Dallas will look to restructure these contract and likely Dak once signed will likely see his contract restructured to free up cap space and this does not even take into account the cap will increase substantially as NFL TV contracts are in place which is double in size from what networks were paying to a tune of over 100 Billion dollars.

That's different because that would include forfeiting 2 1st round picks.

I think there's one or two teams that would out of utter desperation. There always is.

Bad quarterbacks get paid big all the time. A solid QB like Dak certainly would.

Either way, the team that does will rue the day they did. He's not worth huge money.

All depends on where a team is with regards to cap space. We see teams overpay every off season with FA's because they've got the room and a % of the cap has to be spent and maybe they're playing keep away from another team.
