If Dallas loses Greg Ellis... I wouldn't worry much... but hey that's me.

I've heard of the rumors of losing Ellis for R. Barber. I would miss him of course, but hey that's the name of the game... talent acquisition for less dollars (not that I know either players salary to date)... Barber of course would be playing his brother twice a year then... cool. That would leave TB stocked in the DL and Dallas would be stocked at DB if a trade like that did actually commence... Plus... IMO, player for player, Ronde Barber is a better football player than Greg Ellis. Man for man however, both are classy guys.

Think about it, FS would not be a liability whatsoever and that IMO would make Pat Watkins even better on ST... Watkins will be in the mix on defense at some point, but he might not be a difference maker until he gets comfortable playing a position consistently, and I think that will be ST this year. Think of him paired with Keith "Killa" Davis... WOW. Next year he's gonna get his shot at safety... But if Barber did come to Dallas, think how versatile our defensive backfield would be.

Don't get me wrong, Greg Ellis is solid, but to think that everybody is going to go mental just because we lose our sack master... Sack master?? Ellis has NEVER even had double digit sacks... We'd lose more of a solid, classy, locker room leader more than anything... Greg rarely makes mental mistakes in games, but ANYONE better in talent than Greg is going to win most of the battles at the LOS. See Tra Thomas in Philly... Ellis has RARELY ever beaten him in one on one battles... The next new Cowboy sackmaster was drafted last year. Tell me who that will be in your opinions.

But with Eli maturing in the NFC East with Shockey, Burress, Toomer, and little rookie Moss, and then the 3 headed attack of the Skins with Randle El, B. Lloyd and older brother Moss... then with Cooley coming in out of the backfield... Dallas might have something up their sleeve to be better competitive defensively... Parcells wants his defense to crush opponents and wear them down with their size. That way we can get back to hogging the ball with the running game. Something tells me they are just not worried about the offense.;)

It would be nice!

Could we beat the Colts then?

But we would sorely miss the sack machine that Ellis is.

Sure, he is the second best pass rusher on the team. But you gain a starter in Barber, solve the FS mess and free up Williams to blitz more if he wants. If that's the plan, then we would be foolish to hang onto a disgruntled backup.

I don't see what the problem is. Unless of course you have a soft spot for "Mister Cowboy".

Just keep in mind that this is nothing more than a RUMOR. Ellis for Barber isn't probably going to happen and we are all going to be wasting bandwidths over this.

I agree.

Tampa Bay isn't run by imbeciles who would gladly give up an All Pro cornerback for a player like Ellis.

If the Cowboys had Barber and the BUCS had GREG ELLIS... I would hope the Cowboys didnt make this trade!!! ELLIS is an above average DE Barber is an elite CB that excells in slot coverage!!!

a nickle D that included Barber Newman and Henry would be as good as it gets!!!

Barber could also teach Newman a thing or two no knock on Bowles but BARBER is the Player/Coach type!!!

I would say get the deal done but not if we cant lock up Barber for 4 or 5 years!!!

Obviously the Cowboys would take this deal in a heartbeat if it was offered, but it won't be. It's just another topic to keep us busy in this dead time before training camp.

T.O. to the Cowboys was a rumor several months ago. Barber in Big D is a feasible deal that could happen... Rumor or not, it's funner than a bag of hammers to yak about...:p:

As I recall, Ellis is signed until 2009. Barber is a free agent after 2006, I believe. I doubt the Cowboys want to make a trade like that.

Okay I'm confused. The first statement in bold leads me to believe you aren't a Cowboys fan. Yet you say "we." I take it the first statement was supposed to say hope the Cowboys "did" make the trade, instead of didn't.

I expect him to confuse me with random capitalization and runaway exclamation points over non exciting sentences. I don't expect him to confuse me about what he means to say.

Okay, I just hurt my own head.

I wouldn't miss him much either. If Ware goes down, we don't have any proven passrushers on the roster. But between Carpenter, Hatcher, and a healthy Ratliff, Spears, we have our bases well enough covered to let him go.

I would rather replace Ellis' role with some combination of Carpenter and Hatcher than see Reeves in the nickel defense.

Ellis is little more than an insurance policy at this point.
