If Dalton can get a starting job in 2021, we could get a 3rd comp pick

If he plays well enough this season that a team signs him to start, he should get a contract rich enough for us to land a 3rd round comp pick in 2022.

Even a starting QB on the lower end of the salary spectrum will likely make enough to give us a 3rd rounder

Jason Witten, Justin Houston, Travis Kelce and Russell Wilson were 3rd round picks.

Interesting question, never thought about it. But he could very well bring a 3rd round pick.

We should know by then how Dak's rehab had gone. If it takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal, and 2 months rehab or even 3. That puts it around the time FA period starts.

IF he plays well enough to earn a starting QB contract ( likely $25-30M ) I seriously doubt it'll be a one year deal. Some team will offer him a long-term deal ( Bucs, Colts ???? ).

Could also be a placeholder type for a team look to draft and sit someone. Someone outside the top 5 in the draft and missing out on Lawrence/Fields

That’s true.

The signing of Dalton was a smart move. And now with the benefit of hindsight it was a really smart move.

That was over before it started. Hopefully they can reevaluate and start the rebuilding process.
Bring on the next QB to shred then. We have high standards here in Big D. Get that hippie from Clemson and put him through the ringer.

Could you provide a link to this. Not doubting you, I just would like to read about it and nothing is coming up on a search for me.

I think teams know him well and he really doesn’t have anything to prove
I just think his options were limited and will be again because he’s a good but not great QB
I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he’s not back here next year as dak’s backup again
