The key to this game is big plays, specifically turnovers.
In their four losses last season the 49ers committed 3 turnovers in three of them and 2 in the other. In two of them, the opponent had zero turnovers.
They lost to the Bears, Broncos and Falcons despite the fact that they outgained all three in yardage.
The Cowboys must get turnovers on defense while the offense plays mistake free.
If ever there was a Cowboys team with the potential to take the ball away and even score with it, this defense has to be it.
Legendary defenses have legendary games and, while the ones remembered the most are the playoffs, they have to start somewhere. Let Sunday be that beginning. This defense has to get the results they typically get from the weak offenses they have faced recently. If they can do that then they will be regarded with the respect they earned.
On offense they will need a few big plays. They need another skill player to emerge. Perhaps we will see someone like Tolbert, Ferguson or even Vaughn take a huge step forward.
This will be tough. All the 49ers losses in 2022 did not involve Purdy as the starter. However, he's a system quarterback and if you disrupt that system then that system quarterback becomes ineffective. Again, there is no better suited defense to do exactly that.
