If Flournoy has a dynamic season, does it affect Pickens being here long term?

Why would not have a good year? He will constantly have single coverage and 3rd CB on him.

That does not make him a great WR.
does every player have a good year every season of their career? You said it like it couldn't ever happen. Some of you are just keen on what happened last season and feel that it will just continue to happen as if defenses aren't here to stop that. Things happen and things can change. I HOPE they double what they did and get us in the Superbowl to win it!

Tag GP next year and then be willing to take less than 2 #1's for him. A 1st and 3rd would be great.

Use that draft capital to go out and get the best WR you can get in the 1st and keep him for 5 years.
Getting a 1 and a 2 seems like a dream. I'd take a 2 and a 3. Especially in next years draft. We are missing picks and need more.

But I wouldn't take a WR in the 1st. There will be some good ones on day 2 just get the right one. Unless we can get one in FA then save the draft pick.

Coog you always provide interesting and thought provoking content.

My favorite time of the year.......... when backups become potential studs for us.

Flournoy is what he is. A backup WR, probably a #3 at best. Even with a good season, he's not Pickens, doesn't have the ceiling of Pickens, isn't going to be anywhere close to dominant as Pickens.

PS - That's not an endorsement of the need to resign Pickens after his year. He's going to be expensive and in a cap world, you can't just throw oodles of cash at any one position unless it's QB.
If you have the right people in place, you can get a Sam Darnold type QB on the cheap and still make the playoffs... So even with the QB. you can't just throw oodles of cash.

Agree and in fact I think this is the way to go. A lot of big money QBs that aren’t even making the playoffs anymore. Get a really strong supporting cast and go find a mid tier qb. That seems to be the winning formula these days.

When did I say it could not happen? Whoever is our WR 3 should have a great year.

Flournoy is not in the same universe as Pickens is. They are not close at all.
The context of the question flew right over your head. The question is asking, "if Flo has a dynamic season" not your current opinion of the two at this time. We all know GP > Flo at this moment.

If Flournoy is good enough to justify walking away from Pickens, Flournoy isn't going to be cheap. He's also a lot older than Pickens.

Giving Pickens a 4-year deal that now takes him to age 29 is a lot better than giving Flournoy a 4-year deal starting in 2028 that takes him to 32

Not extending Pickens now remains the absolute worst strategy.
26 is a lot older than 25?

Something to think about if Flo has an amazing year, building off some of the good he did this previous season. Does this affect Pickens long term, and Flo can end up being our #2? I know it's early and I'm not trying to crown Flo or down Pickens, it's just a thought! Please give your input
Thing is, unless there is an injury, he isn't getting the targets.

Also, if Pickens shines again next year, we'd have to be idiots to not extend him

If Flo had 49 catches, for 610 yards and 7 TD's would you consider that a great year?

I have a feeling that Flourney is an especially good WR to have around to take pressures off of the others in the WR corps to perform at a healthy level and remain sound. He'll make just enough of an impact to continue to allow good performances from those around him. I do expect to see him improve enough to remain a consistent contributor for the upcoming season. He'll help by remaining a steady contributor, worthy of staying exactly who he is. I fully expect that he'll continue to improve.

I’m starting to stump for tight end in the first round next year but I’m pretty much alone on that

Once we lose Pickens, our only skill position playmaker will be CeeDee and thats a recipe for a quick decline to average.

I’ll be surprised if both Ferguson and Williams don’t both regress this year.

If not Tight End (Jamari Johnson please and thank you), then it would need to be wide receiver.

Continue to build defense in the second and third round.

As to FA, you know that will never happen with this front office. The last great FA signing was TO in 2006.

Then the question itself was a bad one from the outset.

Jsut using the word dynamic evokes an expectation of elite gameplay.

Fluornoy has never shown the capability to perform at that level.

So, in a question that seems to propose Fluornoy as a Pickens replacement, it does justify a direct comparison,

26 years old with virtually no NFL accomplishments when compared to a 25 year old ascending star is a vast difference in career trajectory,

That would be the best WR3 season in the last decade, so yeah, that would be a great year.

The only WR3 I can recall close to that was Cedrick Wilson in 2021.

Flournoy is pretty good. The thing is can he function as a WR1 when the WR1 is hurt?

The answer is obviously no. So if he has a good year, and we let Pickens go, the move is then to draft a WR highly in the draft. At that point it is wise to sign Pickens and not worry about it since we are working in a window with Dak as our QB

I want to keep Pickens long term, but this post isn’t a good take.

Fluornoy is literally less than a year and a half older than Pickens, which you clearly knew, because you’ve laid out their contract year ages above. So it’s just disingenuous to call him ‘a lot older’.

More to the point, why would we be looking to extend Fluornoy in 2028? This team is generally regarded as being in a SB window until that season (the last of Dak’s contract before the get out clause).

If we haven’t won a championship by then, we should rip it up and start again anyway.
