If Flournoy has a dynamic season, does it affect Pickens being here long term?

Why can’t we just extend Pickens now on a 3-4 year deal and push his bigger cap hits to the end of the contract?

The argument that is being made about the age discrepancy late in this thread has lost the original nuanced explanation given earlier in the thread.

The point was that Fluornoy is older, with much less experience and negligible accomplishment.

He had a long, meandering college career including zero offers for a D1 school, a juco season, a year lost to Covid and a torn ACL.

After 2027, assuming he plays well, he gets his first post-rookie contract deal. It will extend all the way until he’s 32

GP, had Jerry handled this appropriately, would be be starting his first post-rookie contract now and would be finished at age 29

So, the Cowboys, in a best case scenario, end up paying big money to an inferior player, already into his post prime years and Pickens loses a year, and more likely two years, of his prime.

Oh, I understood the dude’s point; I just think it’s wrong.

Again, I remain unconvinced they extend a guy like Fluornoy in 2028, a year where they may feasibly walk away from Dak, and/or where they keep him to the end of his deal (or even extend) while bleeding in his replacement.

You answered your own question with the final sentence.
I didn't ask a question therefore I didn't answer anything i'm making a statement i'm tired of hearing about George Pickens and whether he's gonna be here or not in 2027 because I really don't care whether he gets a long term deal here or not..

Every year is a one off and he's here for this coming season and that's all I care about...

Everything else will take care of itself again I'll say it again we have CD lamb and that's all important we have a number one elite receiver whether he's elite every year I don't care he's still a pure number one receiver and we have no worries going forward unless he gets injured...

bahahhahahahahahahaha........ so lets use some improved numbers. Pickens has 107 catches for 1,560 yards and 13 Tds.

and you think Dallas trades him? bahahahhahahahaha, or better yet, lets him walk.
They would never let him walk but trade is still open I don't care how good a season he has I know it sounds odd but when you have CD lamb most teams are not going to pay the same position two top five market deals it just doesn't work that way they're not getting rid of Lamb because it wouldn't work because he's had too many restructures is owed way too much money down the road meaning dead cat money And yes I know Philly just did it with A.J. Brown but it's usually not done that way.. Be cool to find a way to keep both and I get your sarcasm Some of the guys missed it in here your other posts about him maybe having some off field issues and maybe the whole narrative about him some of it's probably a little exaggerated..

But this is still a capped league even though you can get around the cap and as much as I'd like to keep him around the odds are the answer to the question is you keep flo, And then you use the resources which is more than one first round pick you're going to get more than that and you get another wide receiver in a draft you already have a number one wide receiver in Lamb Those are all the reasons you would let him go you trade him they're not letting him walk it'd be the dumbest thing in history to cut a player of his caliber in his prime with all the trade assets you can get for him..

No this is not an Amari Cooper situation Amari Cooper there were other problems Practice problems injury problems concern about his loafing on the road his practice habits and yes that COVID thing..

Cowboys knew they had their number one in lamb and when they traded him for a 5th round pick, nobody else was given a higher pick without Dallas paying part of his 22M.

That was the best deal Dallas can get as much as people were overvaluing Amari he was on the back end of his career He had one more good year and then that was it he pretty much disappeared.

But George Pickens is in his prime.. Dallas will still be able to get a lot of value for him which helps the team It's a similar situation but without the drama that we traded Parsons for the same reason but this time we already have Lambs still on the roster here's less to worry about...

Because they are borderline incompetent.

If he outplays CeeDee again, look for them to tag the man a second time and try to justify how 2 years straight of 10% of the cap and $65m with zero cap flex makes sense.

They’ll probably do it even if he doesn’t because they don’t plan for replacements.

The Cowboys simply don’t understand how to manage contracts and the cap. It’s one of the major reason we haven’t been to the NFCCG in 30 years.

I certainly hope not. Leave it to sherry though to spend WR2 money (18m per) for a WR3 player

I like Fluornoy. He came on pretty well last year when no one else did and helped out when we have injuries, but I don’t think a guy becomes a star out of nowhere at age 25.

He turns 27 during this season and is an RFA after this season. If he plays well he’ll want to be paid accordingly.

Don’t they pay millions of dollars to people to manage this kind of stuff? Competency would be the bare minimum for that kind of salary.

Something to think about if Flo has an amazing year, building off some of the good he did this previous season. Does this affect Pickens long term, and Flo can end up being our #2? I know it's early and I'm not trying to crown Flo or down Pickens, it's just a thought! Please give your input
Absolutely.

Most teams can’t pay two top wrs, because they don’t have two top wrs. Pickens is like 24 and elite. No way in hell we trade him.

The guy who manages both our cap and contracts was hired by the cowboys straight out of his job as an equipment manager for the Razorbacks. This was his first job afree college and he’s been here for 25 years. He was an engineering major,

Loyalty to the Jones family and having Jerry like you is the main job requirement for a long career with the Cowboys.

“Again not sure why we have to keep talking about this Pickens”

You’re right, but pretty much a question. Something must be made of nothing this time of year.

here is a fact
Only one team - the 1997 Broncos
ever won the SB with two 1000 yd WRs

In order for Flo to have that type of. Season. It means one of the top 2 are injured.
