If I had a choice... Mike Martz

Don't think we can put much faith in his record, while a pretty good one, considering the players he won with weren't his...

He inherited a great roster and ran the table like Switzer...

Show me a coach that can win with young players and has a record of rebuilding teams and that's our guy...

Martz with a good DC ( like Phillips or Lebeau) would be awesome..
Labeau is going back to Pittsburgh. Alreadya done deal.

Why in the world would Phillips leave San Diego to come here for the exact same job?

I'll try and find some of the articles that were written about, and with quotes from, Marc Bulger this year. He explained what a relief it was to be in Linehan's system. I don;t want that for the first decent QB prospect we've hed in a long time.
You don't have to. Cuz I did say he came with question marks. I'm willing to admit he's a flawed candidate, but all of them are right about now.

I have a feeling he will at least get an interview. Roy Williams of the Lions likes the guy and is a Cowboys fan. If he'd come here when his Detroit days are over I'd be ecstatic.

I don't know about Martz though. Poor clock management. Silly times to challenge for Instant Replays. There's just something about him that irks me.
Yeah, I have the same reservation about Martz.

IMO, he's a bad game day coach - poor game management. A guy like that loses you a couple of games per year due to boneheaded strategies. Campo's game day blunders used to drive me nuts. I don't want to go through that again.

But, of course, Martz would open up the offense.

I'm a bit torn on Martz, but I think I would be against him. Excellent OC, but I think he needs a head coach to reign him in or else he gets carried away.

On the good side, he's an excellent offensive mind, that will make it difficult on the defenses to game plan. We certainly would be exciting to watch. Romo could do well in the system I'm sure and our offensive talent would be pretty good.

On the down side he leaves the QB open to way too many hits and Martz often manages the game poorly. I would pass.

i would maybe be ok with him... but he better not be at the top of the list.

With a strong DC, I think he'd be a good hire. I'd cringe at how open he'd open Romo to hits, but man, the offense could really be something.

from his Lion's bio

From 1999-2005, the Rams have scored the third-most rushing touchdowns in the league with 113. In Martz’s first three seasons (1999-2001), St. Louis scored the most rushing touchdowns (59) and garnered the best yards per rush average (4.7) during that three-year period.

The Rams earned three-consecutive NFL MVP awards (Warner, 1999 and 2001, Faulk, 2000), which was the first time in NFL history that one team had the outright winner in three straight seasons.

Martz’s 2005 season as the Rams head coach was cut short when he missed the last 11 games due to a heart ailment. During his five full seasons (2000-2004) as the Rams head coach, Martz accumulated a record of 51-29 (.638) in the regular season and 54-33 (.621) overall. Only five coaches in NFL history have more regular season wins in their first five seasons. Prior to the 2005 season, Martz had the fourth-best regular season record among active coaches. His 24 wins during his first two seasons (2000-2001) is the third highest in NFL history, and his 43 regular season wins during his first four seasons as head coach is tied for the third highest in league history.

I'm GLAD you dont have a choice.

No one on the board does, but it doesn't stop most folks from posting "Please Jimmy! Come back!" Or better yet, "Let's bring back Norv" Now does it. ;)

Pure insanity. Do you want Romo to live to see his 28th birthday? Martz is a fool, end of story. This is the most rediculous of all the ideas I have seen today.

You obviously haven't been online long enough. Or maybe you missed the Switzer thread.

It's not as ridiculous as some think. He's a questionable candidate, but really who out there just tickles your fancy? All of them have warts to some degree.

if people here mostly called tuna FAT BAD GAMEDAY COACH WHO CANT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS just what will the board be calling martz after week 2?

no thanks.

maybe he'd lose his arrogance and gain some street smarts with regard to game flow and clock managmenet but i'd rather let another team test those waters.

You have to make mistakes to learn sometimes.

Martz is a good game planner and play caller. He's had bad challenges and the like but that's something that's easy to get better at.

Yeah, he may be good and that may justify his arrogance. But I just can't stand his personality. He's a hard person to respect.

The Lions respect him, which says a lot more than you probably understand.

The Rams players loved him.

I didn't know that!

Which is why he was shown the door?...

Oh my dear God in heaven.

Mike Martz is one of the worst head coaches of the last 20 years. I would kill someone.

He has impressive credentials. He did a great job as the Rams offensive coordinator. etc. I can understand how / why some would look at him as a very good choice.

But beyond the game management issues, Martz was as a head coach, anyway, too pass happy for my tastes. Sort of like Andy Reid of the 2005 season. Too one dimensional for their own good.

Just an opinion.

Ok, coming from Missouri, I have heard some stories, But I have never heard one player said they loved him.....He was a Horrible coach, almost every ram fan will say this. good offensive mind, horrible head coach.
