No, I wouldn’t hang myself, as some probably wish.
This team is a mess, and while it all falls on Garrett, his coordinators may be among the worst. The players are still giving great effort, but they are all angry.
The defensive players are never in position to do anything but chase downfield. They are missing tackles they should make, but it’s clear the coordinator has no idea how to keep a QB in the pocket or keep him from setting season high in QBR and career high in rushing. The players are demoralized and confused, based on their faces on the sideline.
The offense has been a mess all year, despite leading in yards. Moore is overwhelmed and unprepared for his job. He never got the nfl playing or coaching experience for this. Maybe he’s good at drawing up plays, but he cannot match wits during the flow of the game when defenses are doing just that. Did you see Witten screaming at him twice last night? He’s a whipped puppy. When he’d walk over to talk to Dak, he never even made eye contact, just staring down at his play sheet or iPad.....sheepish and embarrassed. Last two critical games, the offense was only successful with the opening script and the hurry-up, no huddle. Remind you of Romo days? Moore’s playcalling has been awful in the red zone all year.
Garrett is the head coach, and the buck stops with him. He will be gone. But, if I were him, I’d walk into the Star, tell Moore he will be part of making the game plan the last three games, but I’d be taking over the in game playcalling. I’d look at Richard and say, same thing....Get the secondary and back seven in sync, but we are sending Rod out with all in game responsibility the last three games. Richard was credited as a good secondary coach in Seattle, but he was such a failure as coordinator that he was fired. He has made a total mess of what should at least be an average defense.
For those who like to make up their own history, Garrett made his bones as OC and play calling. That’s what made him a head coaching candidate in the NFL. His playcalling duties were not taken away because of the offense, which was always successful under him. It was removed when he was struggling with clock and game management as head coach.
Again, Garrett is going to be gone, but if I were him, I’d make these changes for the final 3 games, especially taking over play calling, and I’d tell Jerry, if you don’t like it, fire me now instead of waiting. The players need to see change and have hope that someone will put them in positions to be successful. This isn’t about saving anyone’s job, it’s what I’d do if I were Garrett, and it’s what the players deserve and need.
