If JPP becomes a free agent should we take a shot at him?

Looking ahead to this offseason (why did it have to start so soon :( ). It seems to me the best thing to go after is defensive line help. I think D-Law can be but still needs a few years, Mincey is a solid rotational guy, I love Crawford at the 3-tech, but we have holes at 1-tech and a second defensive end. I also think we need help in the secondary... but... there really isn't anyone there I see worth taking so maybe through the draft *worries a bit*. Anyway by far the two best free agent linemen in my mind are Suh and JPP. Suh has been talked about to death here (including by myself), so can we talk about JPP? He had 12.5 sacks this year after a disappointing 2013 season, he consistently gets double teamed as he is such a threat, and he has had as many as 16.5 sacks in his career. Seems like he is worth a shot to me, particularly if we can't get Suh.

I think I would go after Greg Hardy. His charges are going to be dropped.

I think JPP is damaged goods.

Idk.. He just turned 26 a few days ago. And he's been dominant at times. If he could be had at a reasonable price that would give us more flexibility in the draft. But all depends on if he'd be willing to take a 2-3 year deal and prove he's still got it.

Offer JPP a contract like Melton.

But I feel that Dallas should use the same approach to free agency like last year.

That's what I am thinking. Double-digit sack guys are hard to come by and he is quite good against the run as well. It really depends on what he goes for, but if it stays reasonable, he is certainly an upgrade that would help us a lot.

Agreed, there isn't a lot out there at positions we really need so look to fix the d-line with a guy or two, then just go to the draft.

I concur. We should not give bad contracts but I feel that Jerry and Jason should focus on upgrading the dline with talented players.

Then build the team through the draft (best players available).

Money. I have to look at our cap situation. Which is always a puzzle because of the restructuring and all.
