If Marinelli leaves, switch to 3-4?

Any of you guys hope/think any of the big names will surprise us by Bradying and sacrificing a little in their contracts to benefit the team? Or is it just a pipedream?

If we win a Super Bowl I could see Dez doing it. He's a true fan who is living his dream. Even perhaps just getting there, or having a tight NFC Championship match. Something to make him excited, he's a competitive person, playing on his childhood favorite team, he'll want to prove that they can do it.

No other player would take a substantial discount. Maybe McClain would do something like a 2 year deal based on us giving him the opportunity to revive his career. Maybe Free would take a slight discount. If Free leaves, Parnell is the likely starter here - he's not going to be viewed as a starter in FA, he'd take a discount to get a little security with a few year lockup. No player outside of Dez could I see taking a substantial discount.

He isn't going anywhere. 3-4/4-3 doesn't really matter all that much anymore, since teams spend a lot of time in Nickel. I would likely hire another Cover 3 guy, maybe from the Seahawks or Jags.

Ex-Falcons coach Mike Smith would be fine w/ me if Marinelli leaves for TB and we don't think Eberflus is ready to be a DC. I think Wash made a mistake getting rid of Haslett...

Marinelli will never be a head coach in this league again. He's not going anywhere.

Don't jump down my throat just yet..

If we lose Marinelli, which seems like a very large possibility between the Lovie Smith rumors and now all these HC positions he is being connected to, we may be best off switching to a 3-4. This is an idea that popped into my head while listening to the Lunchbreak on DC.com today as they discussed our LBing situation. We would be able to get Hitchens - Lee - McClain and Durant all on the field, and if we brought back Carter coming in for relief we'd have a pretty darn sick LBing group.

Maybe this wouldn't work, but our draft + cap situation would, in theory, allow us to bring in all the parts necessary on the d-line.

This would serve to help our secondary where they have seemed to struggle most - intermediate and short coverage, and then getting burnt deep.

Do you create these threads because you enjoy abuse or do you really believe this stuff.

1. None of Hitchens, Lee, McClain or Durant are 3-4 OLBs. They would all be 3-4 ILBs and only 2 of them could be on the field together.

2. Tampa Bay did NOT fire their D-Coordinator. Marinelli would have to take a demotion and his friend Kiffin would be out of a job. It was Linehan that was linked to a Head Coaching job, not Marinelli unless people are just making up stuff.

3. LBs in the 4-3 are generally better coverage guys than LBs in the 3-4, especially OLBs in the 3-4. You would lose one coverage type 4-3 LB and replace him with a 3-4 OLB that is more DE than LB.

4. Maybe they could just hire an extra D-Coordinator (a 3-4 guy) and they could switch back and forth from week to week between a 4-3 and 3-4. Better yet, Jerry could have 2 big buttons in his suite, one labeled 3-4 and one labeled 4-3 and he could switch back and forth during the game.

Just so people get it...these players (brady) don't really sacrifice anything to help the team.

They just restructure the contract and most times actually get more added to it in the long term.

Cowboys players have already done restructures (sacrifices wink wink) in the past to help the team. Ware did it plenty of times, Romo has done it before. It's not a big stretch to think it will not happen again.

Whether or not we get a big name, high priced FA is a different story all together.

I hope not Dallas need to stick to a system on defense going back and forth would be stupid.

First off, don't think Marinelli will get a HC offer....he may get interviewed, but no. There are some who are great coordinators just not great HCs. Nothing wrong with that. He will be offered a substantial pay raise by Jethro to stay and not go to Lovie, where it is a very unstable situation. Like jumping from a yacht, to a rubber dinghy with a slow leak. As for 3-4, not with Marinelli back. And even if he did leave, NO.
