if nick fairley drops to 9

My short list in the top 10 is:

Dareus
Fairley
Peterson

After that:

Von Miller (his talent is undeniable, but Spencer is here and serviceable enough)
Quinn (A notch down from Miller polish wise right now, but athletically may be above plus the Spencer thing I mentioned above)

For our needs Dareus, then Peterson, Quinn, then Fairley, the OT Tyron Smith, before "the tweener" Miller, then maybe even "the Artist still known as Prince" before any talk of a trade down.

:laugh2:

Dareus is also my favourite player in this draft for us and then Peterson. 3rd is Fairley.

I'll take any of those guys you mentioned before Tyron Smith and Prince also.

I also agree on not trading down since we will be able to get a real good player that also fulfills a need for us.

Miller is more polished to start than Quinn is at this point in an OLB role in a 3-4. I like them both though and if I cant Get Dareus, Peterson or Fairley then I like either as the next option.

I would give up our 3rd to move up and ensure one of those players but I doubt we'll have to.

There's going to be 2 QB's taken in the first 10 IMHO and I doubt either of the top 2 WR's fall out of the top 10.

After that, I would trade out a couple spots for the "workout warrior" and "the artist presently known" as Prince if these are truly the next options the organization are looking towards. Lol!

I think the choice will be made for us, with him being drafted before we're on the clock. So, playing devil's advocate here.

The concerns are still there regarding him: He's not particularly scheme-diverse (Although not as bad as Bowers in that regard), will have some problems with gap responsibility (This can be coached), is a one year wonder, and has a bit of a nasty streak (This can also be a plus).

But he absolutely dominated the National Championship, and players with his size and quickness are very rare.

Without knowing who else is left on the board, it's a little difficult to say "absolutely I would take him," but I would be leaning towards it.

Fairley would probably play half his snaps at DE and half at DT in the nickel. Adding an explosive inside pass rusher will help Ware a great deal.

I would be happy with the pick if he is on the board at #9.

Fairley and Ratliff at DT in passing downs with ware and bowen coming off the edge. love it

I would have an aneurysm if we didn't take him.

Exactly, if you watched him at all this season you know this guy is an absolute beast. I don't care if you run a 3-4, 4-3, 46, 69, 666, or a freaking john 3:16 defense. He's still going to be a beast.

One year wonder's are always a bigger risk. And remember that he would have to tone down his dirty play at Dallas. Now if he went to the squeelers, he would be fine.

Well put... his character concerns will be magnified during the lockout. And it will be magnified under officiating in Dallas.

Plus, the one-year wonder thing makes this a reach at #9 for Dallas anyway.

He wouldn't be a reach at #1. He is a steal of epic proportion at 9. Bigger steal than Dez was.

do we take him or do we trade down to the teens, with tyrone smith still on the board.

I am one who thinks our defense needs someone that can intimidate someone. Our defense basically doesnt have anyone that is ruthless like fairley (other than probably ratliff). Also ratliff could be a great mentor to fairley if he listens. Imagine Fairley, ratliff and ware, QB's will be pooping on theirself during the game.
He is James harrison as a lineman.
and In the big game(bowl game) he performed this season.

the only concern i have is the 1 year wonder, but you can say that about of alot of prospects in this draft such as bowers, quinn, marvin austin, etc.

you take fairley....he dominated similar to what Ndamukong Suh did at Nebraska. Fairley reminds me of Lett...just bigger and nastier.

A great player for a 4-3 defense, that plays dirty, or that has uh... sympathetic referees,

might only be an average player as a 3-4 system that is officiated by hawkish referees.

Does a player fit your defensive scheme? If not, square peg round hole syndrome, where the player might be somewhat productive, but won't reach full potential.

Really? People are complaining about him being a dirty player? He's a defensive player in the NFL, there's no such thing as dirty unless you're intentionally trying to hurt people. Which I don't believe he does. He's got a mean streak, I would encourage that as a coach.

Fairley is the epitome of a dominating DL.

If we somehow manage to get him, I'll be absolutely thrilled.

I saw Lett in person at the 92 and 93 training camps in Austin. He towered over everybody on the team, at least an inch taller than Erik Williams. The height/weight on those old rosters was not very accurate. In reality he was probably about 6'7" and 320 lbs.

Got about halfway thru but couldn't handle that horrible music any longer.

Lot of good plays, a lot that would be negated by penalty in the NFL however.

I'd be thrilled to get the best defensive player in college football last year with the #9 pick. But I would be amazed if he got past the Titans at #8.
