Why don't NFL teams just make a point and draft the top 5 players and don't give in to their demands. For example Stafford asked for 42 mil guaranteed and the Lions offered 10 mil, If Stafford doesn't sign he has to wait a year and his stock will surely drop.

Bottom line don't blink at negotiation table.....

I know you would be wasting a pick, but if the top 5 or 10 picks all had to sit out a year, Rookies would lose all leverage the next season.....

I would hate for the Cowboys to have the #1 pick and give that rookie 50 mil SB and he's a bust.......BTW if a rookie scale is accepted like in the NBA you would than see the big trades we all hope and look for..

Great idea and it would work if you could get all the teams to sign off on it, but you won't so it won't work. NFLPA would have to sign off on it, and they'd be willing I bet if the owners make concessions at the bargaining tables of the CBA.

No it's not a great idea, in fact it's a dumb idea. Have you ever heard of the word collusion, the NFLPA would file a law suit against the league so fast it would make your eyes spin if the owners tried that stunt...... This is all moot anyway, there WILL be a rookie slotted salary cap in the new collective agreement, the owners want it and the veteran players want it. The length of rookie contracts may be shorter, three or four year deals, and not six or seven year deals, but there will be a slotted rookie cap, just like the NBA....

There will be a cap probably after next year. That's going to mean everyone will come out next year.
