If not an OL, WR or S, in round-1, then what position does Dallas end up drafting?

Suppose Dallas' first round pick comes along and the Cowboys stand pat and make a selection, only it's not for an OL, WR or S - for whatever reason. Then what position do you think that draft pick might end up being?

I think it will once again be on defense, and I suspect it might be for a NT.

Let me preface this by saying that in no way shape or form do I think Ratliff loses his job at NT. On the contrary, this kind of pick would allow Dallas to use Ratliff in a more versatile way, like moving him to DE on passing downs while still controlling the middle of the line with the draft pick. And it would effectively replace Spears on passing downs (who is great vs. the run but marginal at best as a pass rusher), thus allowing Dallas to upgrade their pass-rushing ability all the way around.

That's my hunch anyways, what's yours?

Ratliff is not moving to DE. Ratliff is not moving to DE.

There's an echo in here.

I did preface my post by saying Rat is not losing his NT job - just that bringing in a NT on passing downs allows Dallas to move Rat along the line to create some mismatches and still hold the middle. But whatever. Suppose it's not happening and the pick is not NT. fine! Then what do you think it might be? ILB? CB? I still think it's a pick on defense - maybe TE though on a long-shot.

It could echo a thousand times, but there are plenty of people who would never hear it. You may as well be a quaking duck.

If not an OL, WR or S, then I'd bet we'd end up grabbing a CB. There is usually quite a bit of CB talent near the end of the first round, so it'd likely be a BPA selection. Someone like Kyle Wilson or Devin McCourty could be good fits, depending on how they run. It'd be a selection that provided depth at one of the most important positions and one that likely gave us the best value.

Unless the guard from Iowa is on the board the cowboys WILL draft Mt Cody. Mark it down, cement it, I have been saying this for months. Please don't give me the Rat comments again...I know we have a Pro Bowl NT already.

If there is a good value for a DE at 27 then that would be my guess.

I would outside of OL,WR or S. I would go with ILB like Spikes if he is there or CB like Patrick Robinson

Ratliff may not move to DE this year but you gotta believe at some point in his career he will.

The odds of him doing what hes doing and staying healthy cant be good.

I wouldn't mind drafting someone and hoping they can develop into a quality NT eventually and allow Rat to play some D End.

Plus you gotta love the thought of teams having to pick who they will guard 1 on 1 between Rat @ DE or one of our OLB's.

LB or DL. If the OL position has been picked clean, I could see them going with Odrick or a LB like Graham. You can never have enough depth at those positions and I think either guy would instantly be in the rotation (Odrick potentially starting over Spears by the middle of the season).

And then the masses start complaining that we didn't draft for need (while preaching over and over how you draft the best player available).

My points exactly plus throw in that spears and bowen will be FA next year and the Rat, Igor are locked up...I really think they go with Mt Cody he is the best prototypical 3-4 NT this year..if he is there will be hard to pass up..as for LB tuff call there as well...with so many drafted last year I suspect the org will want to see what they have there this year before using a high pick on that position..all just my opinion.....of course..

I went to bed, so I am just now seeing this.

It could be any number of directions.

If we lose one of our DEs it could be Jared Odrick. He is a prototypical 3-4 DE.

If Rolando McClain is injured badly he may fall to us at 27. I doubt he will though.

Jerry could trade out of the 1st completely, but there are plenty of OL he might want. That is the direction I think we are going BTW. I know you removed that as an option, so I am trying to accommodate.

I could see CB, but I think that is least likely of the 4 scenarios. I think we will draft a CB, just not in round 1.

ILB. Sean Weatherspoon.

If we don't, then the Saints get a hell of a LB cause no way he gets by them. Considering they've already taken three players i wanted for us (Meachem, Carl Nicks, and Tracy Porter), I'd like to get at least one guy.

Any playmaker that falls is likely going to get picked. That means WR and RB for sure. Add in S. Then OL, CB, ILB can get added. OLB is always there in a 3-4.
