If not Ray then who

After watching the combine and seeing hundreds of posts on this site, I ask the simple question of if we dont' sign Ray Lewis who will start at ILB?

Draft - The combine and the analysis from Mayock and crew seemed to be clear that ILB is pretty weak this year and it doesn't look like anyone can come in a start from day one.

Burnett - can't stay healthy and will want just as much money as Ray.

Carpenter - please, it's been 3 years and he has barely played a down. I think he has been given a fair shake in practice and just can't do the job. Not under Big Bill and not under Wade. Time to cut this mistake.

Zach - I'd rather overpay for what Ray brings to the locker room.

FA - who is out there besides Ray. Crowder just got resigned. Brooking?

There is absolutely ZERO, NADA, ZILCH, opportunity that Burnett gets a deal that is even in the same neighborhood as Ray Lewis.

Umm...Derrick Brooks?

He's an upgrade over Zach and will be cheaper than Ray.

Brooks would get owned in the middle of a 3-4 D. I'm fine if Ray works out, but I would like to go get a young MLB in the draft. I like Frantz Joseph for a late pick.

He isn't a ILB, but Cato June just got released. We might get him for cheap and he is better than Spencer. Plus that would allow us to get rid of Ellis. Just a thought.

Cato is a 225lbs OLB in a 4-3 cover 2 defense.

at least he doesn't suck like Ron Brace

but if we want to keep Burnett, and he costs too much, maybe Cato is a cheaper alternative?

For what its worth i think we pick up 2 in the draft, maybe a Jasper Brinkley and a Jason Phillips(we would need to get them in the 4th and 5th i think). They will compete in all honesty with Carp for playing time.
To be honest Carp is the leading candidate to play next to James, like it or not.

June is better than Spencer...how?

You do realize Cato June is only 6-0 227lbs.

Burnett hasn't done anything to get a contract that we can't afford.

Ron Brace says you're crazy for thinking Cato would work.

To be candid, he's not. He can barely play special teams and they had to stuff his his highlight video with pre-season footage to fill out the tape. Biggest 0 on the team.

Then he'd fit into the WILB job just fine.
I didn't check his weight, I just knew he used to be good and he's only 29.

Lol I didn't check his weight. It's been a while since I checked on him.
He's been a productive player for a very good defense for years, Spencer can hardly stay healthy as it is. At least June gets on the field and he played OLB at Tampa.

Granted, he'd be a ILB in Dallas because of size.
