If we can't sign Spencer, then seems like we have some money to play around with in Free Agency.

Who do we get?

What about a Safety? Byrd means we don't have to take Vaccaro... is he franchised?

Personally I like Michael Bennett.

He is young, plays both the weak and the strong side and inside in the nickel.

His numbers have gone up each year and he is an ufa.

Had almost as many sacks as spencer.

They had two opportunites to get him and didn't want him. I don't know if they just didn't want him here with his brother or if he worries them more personality wise than MartyB.

Yea I know he isn't coming just saying he seems like a guy with potential turn the corner.

He is a Bennett though and honestly that should make him taboo out there. Not good for the locker room.

Still, spencer is set to fall off a cliff and who wants to pay to watch that again.

Wonder if Connor Barwin could play with his hand on the ground. He's similar at least in size to 4-3 LDE's like C. Long, Tuck, Biermann etc.

I have a feeling that Spencer is going to get tagged again. We are clearing too much cap space to let him walk. I read in another thread that we are like $5 million under the cap now and we can drop another $10 million with a new deal for Romo.

That would mean we would be around $15 million under the cap and the tag for Spencer is around $11 million if I remember right. Seems like that is what the team is looking at doing.

and with what we would need to sign our rookies that would leave us about nothing.

With the rookie cap, signing draft picks is very easy nowdays. If you are $15 under and spend $11, you still have $4 million for draft picks.

Very doable.

Very doable.

If we do not trade up its probably about $2.5 to $3 million to sign all our rookies. So we would have some pocket change but not much else.

You're forgetting Free, they could get the rookie money by cutting him as a June 1 release or get him to take a paycut.

I would look at all of the Bear's defensive Free Agents.

Israel Idonije
Amobi Okoye
Geno Hayes
Nick Roach

Henry Melton: Probably Franchised or too expensive.

On offense, I really like Brandon Moore (Jets).

They have yet to cut Free, Connor or Spears. If cut after June 1st (or designated a June 1st player now) they would save about 12M for these 3.

Good call. He was a DE his 1st two years in Houston. He has some incredible measureables.

The big question is how much?

Connor Barwin

Draft 2009
Height: 6035
Weight: 256
40 Yrd Dash: 4.59 (4.47)
20 Yrd Dash: 2.68 (2.58)
10 Yrd Dash: 1.53 (1.53)
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 21
Vertical Jump: 40 1/2
Broad Jump: 10'08"

I like Matt Shaughnessy to rotate with Crawford and find another pass rusher in the draft if possible or maybe Dwight Freeney on a cheapie two year deal.

Well luckily he had an off season compared to the season prior, but how much less would he take than Spencer is another matter.

Bennett is 27 so he would be an upgrade most likely just from a stat, size, age, 4-3 experience standpoint but he is more than likely going to be as, if not more, expensive than Spencer.

I like this thought. I know that they moved him from the strong to the weak side at one point, so he seems more like a passrusher than someone good against the run. But maybe he could do it. He seems more like a guy made to be a 34 OLB, but I like the idea. If Houston doesn't re-sign him, he might not cost too much because he did have a sub-par year.

Not sure he's the guy, but that's the type of player to look for. As theebs said, Bennett might be even better, but who knows if the team wants to take on another Bennett.
