If our QB COmpletely slides all season, does JJ draft one?

I have thought of this very scenario a few days ago. I would absolutely draft Colt McCoy in next years draft, reguardless of how good or bad Romo is doing. Look at what New England did this off season with the Matt Cassell trade. Got a boatload of draft picks for em. Remember about a decade or so ago, how Green Bay would constantly draft qb's and later on trade em? IMO drafting McCoy would be a great PR move on the Cowboy's part, drafting a Texas icon. Second it would definitely light a fire under Romo. You draft McCoy and groom him for a couple years and if Romo regresses, then you got a young qb prospect ready to take over. Even if Romo recaptures his past glory, and goes on to a solid career, you can later trade McCoy and most likely get back alot more in a trade than what you used to draft him.

I agree. Provided Colt is still available when we draft. Rumor has it he worked out this past offseason with Joe Montana....so maybe the 49ers are interested in him.

He had better, I doubt Stephen McGee is the answer if Romo continues to play like a donkey's butt.

But I thought that anyone Jerry drafts is "next in line".....

Get a PtP'er Jerry ... no more duds and UDFA's.

I am simply asking opinions here.If Romo turns into Derek Anderson which may be slowly happening, does JJ waste more time?Does JJ draft a QB?Does JJ stick with the current QB given the economic status?

ONE WORD

no

Nobody thought Romo was the answer either when he went through his first TC. In fact he wouldnt even have made the team if not for Q-Bong's stupidity.

I actually liked some of what I saw from McGee in the little time he got during preseason, and reportedly he looked very good during the minicamps and OTA's. With time, he could pan out.

Not sold on Colt McCoy as an NFL prospect at all.

Agreed..............lets see how the guy looks with somebody besides Tecmo calling the plays.

If Gruden or Shanny cant help him play better........then he is done.

EDIT***I also want to see him play with some receivers that know how to line up correctly before the snap and actually run crisp routes. Laufenberg says our WRs are poor route runners, so we need to see how Romo plays throwing the ball to receivers who are not scrubs.

I'm curious.

Have half the people who criticize the receivers for "pour route running" even played the position before?

the problem is not the QB, the problem is coaching, discipline, accountability, practice.

if we continue to slide we need to replace the HC and OC with real coaches. the QB will be fine.

Well both Laufenberg and Aikman have made the poor route runner comments about our receivers. Given the fact that both these guys were Pro QB's (and one was a Pro Bowler and Hall of Famer), I would think they would know a thing or two about WR routes how they should be run . . .

I believe we will draft one. Unfortunatley it will probably be in the seventh round.

You know we did just take one in the 4th round, right? We don't really know what we have in McGee yet. He's the first quarterback drafted by the Cowboys since Quincy Carter in 2001, and the second since 1991.

That said, if a blue chipper is available at our pick in next years draft, I say we go for it.

Romo can still play the game. I am not worried about the physical aspect of it. He needs to losen up, stop worrying about the critics-fans included, play football and have fun.

If he can get back to that we will see the Tony Romo that we expect. He is not having fun, playing loose or just flat out enjoying himself. I am not sure how he gets back to that but if he can get back to that point after all of the crap then it will get him over the proverbial hump IMO. That is where he is at right now.

On that note, and I know he does not have the physical gifts of Brett Favre but nobody ever changed Brett Favre, he was a gunslinger throughout, and even though he only won 1 SB he is viewed as one of the best ever, even though he is at the top of the heap in int's and boneheaded plays. He just surpased those with great plays.

That is how Romo is, and what makes him special. He needs to hold onto the football better in the pocket, but everything else he has tried to change is no benefit to him. It has made him worse.

16-20 int's a season are fine with me as long as he is making plays throughout the game.

Somebody on this staff needs to go tell him that and then just get out of the way and let him play!
