then was Parcells holding him back and not letting him coach up to his potential, even as an assistant, in Dallas?
I am not going to write off Parcells for this one game, but it seems to be conventional wisdom that he hasn't had the great coaching staffs like he had in the past.
Payton's performance this season would seem to poke a few holes in that theory.

I don't know, he couldn't do it with the Giants either. That thought did cross my mind during the game though. Where was that Sean Payton with us.

when did Sean have this type of firepower in Dallas?

Brees played the game of his career.

when Payton he had it in NY he lost his OC playcalling duties shortly after his superbowl loss.

let it go.

Fassel took over the play calling two years after the Giants lost in the SB.

didn't they miss in 2001, then in 2002 after the loss to the Texans, he had the callling yanked and they then made the playoffs as wild card where they lost the 49ers?

I remember telling Saints fans that they would love Payton and that I wished Parcells had retired to let Sean take over....It really hurts now.

Maybe there was something to what Bellichick said about Parcells not allowing him to blossom or something to that effect.

Mumbles hasn't won anything without Weis and Crennel ;)

Parcells has a philosophy. His philosophy is to manage a game. Payton has a cut throat mentality. His philosophy is to take your guts and spread them all over the field.

We saw which philosophy was better tonight.

Not really. Bress put up 500yds in one game this year against the Ravens.

yards are irrelevant. he was lights out, on the road in a big game.

if he could do this reguarly he'd have won the Chargers a title or two.

Sign me up for being on board with the cut throat mentality.

This passive garbage is pretty painful.

How many wins through out Pacells' reign here have we piled up by being conservative? Not many.. So we may as well get after it.

That's just it though.. Parcells is too hard headed to see just that and that's not something that's ever going to change.

Man, Payton is one heckuva coach and it's just a shame that we let the wrong coach walk in this past offseason.
