If Romo had started last year and had success

would Vinatieri have chosen to only visit US as the ONE TEAM?

I really wonder that now

You're really stretching now.

There are TONS of scenarios that we could conjure up and attach a "what if" to - this one is is no more valid than any of the other possibilities.

I agree that as far as what if's go, this one is a bit of a stretch but then again, this is a message board and probably the most appropriate place to kick around this kind of stuff.

Why not, I am sure Steve Hutchinson would have been right behind him.

I just don't think everyone in the NFL wants to play for the Cowboys.

While I agree if you just take it for what it is... it IS a stretch....

BUT

Vinatieri knows Bledsoe.... he knows he lost HIS SB... he knows that Belichek dumped him for unknown and WON... he saw Bledsoe blowing chunks in Dallas....

It may or may not have crossed his mind.... If it were me... I know I would consider it

I don't doubt that having a new, successful QB may have been a factor in possibly luring Vinateiri here, but there are too many other factors at play to even be able to speculate if it would or could have made a real impact.

Hell, even so, he went to a team with a QB with a long history of success, whereas Romo would still be just a youngster potentially subject to a sophomore slump. A young, successful Romo last year would still have had a hard time competing with the Colts as a draw for Vinatieri's services.

One big reason it's kind of a strectch to specualate is that it requires that we assume Romo would have been as successful last year as he has been this year.

Factor that in, as well as the fact that Vinatieri got to stay in the conference and division he was familiar and comfortable with, and he got to go to an undisputed Super Bowl contender, and we don't know the contractual ins and outs required to sign him, and we don't know his mind set or thoughts concerning the Cowboys or if he really even considered other teams ........... just too much speculation.

I don't know if it would have made any difference.

Reportedly, Parcells told Belichick and Pioli that we wouldn't go after Vinatieri unless another team did first. That's why Vinatieri visited the Colts before he was going to visit us. And the Colts reportedly gave him an offer -- one that made him the highest-paid kicker in history -- and said they'd pull it if he left.

So, do you think Vinatieri would turn down the largest contract ever offered to a kicker just to be on the same team as Romo?

Interesting. I'd never heard that scenario. I guess this is why you post these kinds of subjects.

Thanks for telling that.
