Good point Brain...........kinda like all the "if Dak gets an extension, I'm done" posts.

I can only think of one or two that actually left the board.
so you want all the frustrated fans to leave the board? Pretty sure when people say they’re “done”, they mean as fans of the team. Has nothing to do with this board. I’m not a fan anymore, just a casual follower. But I still like the board.

Will never leave the team but there have definitely been years when I’m far less interested. Next season looking like another one where my marriage grows stronger because I’d rather spend time with the wife than watch another humiliating season. Or maybe it’s time to repaint the house…. Sunday home improvement tends to improve during these losing seasons.

I understand your grievance, but there is nothing this team can do to get me out. They can hire my neighbor Herb (who is an orthodontist that I refuse to go to) for the job and I’ll still be a fan.
Dr. Herb is the man and was my 1st coach for HC position. Honestly, Schot or Dr. Herb, the outcome is the same.

If Shottenheimer is named the head coach of the Cowboys, I am out.

I know no one cares if I am in or out, but after 65 years of being a Cowboys fan, I believe it is telling that a lifelong fan will call it quits with his team. I glommed on to the Cowboys when they were competing with the Dallas Texans. I especially imprinted on No. 17, Dandy Don Meredith. He was and remains my favorite player of all time. That is not meant to say that he was the best player, even at his position, it was his humanity, cool, and humor. Who is the best player at his position on the Cowboys all the time? Hands down, Troy Aikman. I have seen every QB, up close and personal. No one threw the ball with such precision. When he targeted Irwin, the ball was placed right between the 8s. His long ball was also a thing of beauty. He also had fire in his belly and never backed down. Many folks would say Roger. As much as Roger was a great representative of the organization, his passing abilities were nowhere close to Aikman's. I remember going to many games and watching Staubach's first few passes. If his down and outs to Pearson sailed well above his head, as it often did, then we were in for a long day. And it happened a lot. Roger was a great leader and athlete. His Roger Dogger abilities were impressive. But if you had to pick one Cowboys' QB, it has to be Troy.

But I regress. I was at the last Super Bowl that Dallas played in. It was against Pittsburgh in Tempe. Cowboys won. Because of Cowher, the game was closer than it should have been. Since then we have endured 30 years of ineptitude. I don't need to discuss this, we all know the reasons why.

This leads to my declaration. If Shottenheimer is named head coach I am out. If this is Jerry's move it says that he does not care about winning. I have suspected that for a long time. This would be my final straw.

About 5 years ago I stopped buying anything Cowboys and I refused to go to a game either at Jerry World or on the road. I was done giving the Jones family any of my hard-earned money. I have advised other Cowboys fans to do the same thing. Jerry only cares about two things; Jerry and money. He is a narcissist and a money grubber of the worst kind.

Shottenheimer is a person who got his job because of his father. He was so negatively regarded that McCarthy decided he would call plays instead of leaving that to his offensive coordinator. Shottenheimer has shown nothing to indicate that he is any more than a position coach. Making him the HC is expedient for Jerry. Shotty will not rock the boat, will let Jerry interfere in all decisions and most importantly won't cost Jerry money. My guess is that he would take less money than Big Mike. That will make Jerry a very happy guy.

The only thing wrong with this equation is that the team will not improve, the Cowboys will continue their mediocrity and the fan base, including me, will continue to be frustrated.

I have seen this movie before. It has repeated for 30 years. It is the same BS every year. I always joke about the Cowboys always winning the Super Bowl twice a year. Once, right after the draft and the other in training camp. In those two moments, Jerry is waxing his complete bull **** and we the fans somehow buy into it even as our minds know better. Jerry is the ultimate P.T. Barnum and I have been the ultimate sucker for now going on 3 decades. That will end immediately after the coronation of the next Head Coach Flunky. Fool me 30 times shame on me.

If this is the eventuality, I will watch the NFL with dispassion. I will not care who wins or who loses. The league has become a shadow of its former self. The league declared itself as "entertainment" to obtain a waiver from anti-trust regulation and with that declaration the honesty of the league came into serious question. Now that the league endorsed gambling and is profiting from the same, the credibility of the outcome of games, especially the big ones is seriously in question, at least with me. (See the last three SBs. In each, the team that won, was referee aided in their winning drive, not just once, but several times for infractions of the rules that no one else saw.

So it is all up to Jerry. Name Shotty as the next head coach and I am out of here. So, Jerry what is it going to be?
Agree with you 1,000,000% I’m a 50 year cowboys fan also. But you and I know. If by some miracle they go 10-0 we will be right back! Probably for another disappointment but we will. I hate this coach pick and think it’s one of or the worst.

If they win the SB next year, will you still be out? Heck if they are above .500 after 8 games, will you still be out?

Even if you are, I bet 90%+ of fans who say things like you did, won't stick to it.

Heck, I bet even if they suck for two years straight, with Schotty, and then start winning, you'll be back in.

IOW, "being out" is a very non final status.

Also, I’ve stopped being the crazy screaming yelling at the tv cowboys fan years ago after romo threw that int in the end zone and I punched through my hollow basement door, which is still there to remind me, but my expectations of them and honestly really don’t care anymore, I actually root against them because this is the only way I can think that maybe the coach will get fired and we can get better which i believed couldn’t get any worse but it has. I used to count the days after the SB for the next season but I honestly don’t care anymore either.

“Being out” means, imo, becoming apathetic.

Not caring…

Ho hum…

Rarely, if ever watching a full game, or even any game at all for that matter.

Disaffected…

Blasé …

No excitement…

It doesn’t mean not caring about the Cowboys or hoping they lose.

It doesn’t mean not ever talking about the Cowboys or not wanting the Jones's grip on the franchise to be destroyed.

It doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a fan of another team.

It literally just means you’re done expending and investing emotional currency (and your own literal currency for that matter) on a team run by one of two things (or plausibly both): morons and/or grifters.

If we still weren't fans of the Cowboys, would we care enough to be mad about the hire?

I mean I have zero emotions either way about the Raiders hiring Pete Carroll because I couldn't care less about them.

If I stuck with this team this long, why would I let a coaching hire end it? I endured the Campo years and this can't be worse. Coaches come and go. Players come and go.

I am NOT happy with the past three decades at all. But I cannot bring myself to not root for the Cowboys every season. Not Jerry Jones, not particular individuals, the TEAM.

Well, it happened. I am out. I enjoyed it while it lasted but now it is over.
I will miss the franchise that once was and the comradery of this site. I may check in occasionally because it has been such a big part of my life for so long. But I am officially not a Cowboys fan. I am throwing away my caps, my tee shirts and my sweats. I am keeping my NO. 17 Jersey because it has my favorite player's name and number.

Jerry is sticking it to all the fans. He hired a man who nobody else would even interview. Matt Eberflus for defensive coordinator. Why not the parking lot attendant, they have as much chance of being successful.

OBTW, see this, it is exactly how I feel.
