i appreciate the effort but i think you have to stop and think for a second if a new CBA is put in place there will be a salary cap and we wont be able to afford even 2 of those free agents besides we need Clabo more than a RG hands down we could throw holland in there but we cant live with another year of columbo . i love this guy's heart but injuries and age have made him the biggest liabilty in the starting lineup IMO. Smith is suppossed to be a project tackle which we just cant afford right now . also i think people need to stop posting the same 4 or 5 free agents in every dream scenario it's not like we are the redsox and we can sign all the top free agents . There will be competion i know you are assuming we will get all the former raiders because if ryan but money trumps for most players today

I like your effort kid. I know you've been working on this thread for awhile. Good formatting as well. That takes skill!

Nice plan.

I'm starting to get a little concerned with what I see as a rapidly closing window for our two best/most impactful players.

ROMO and WARE.

These are the hardest commodities to find in football. And since 2006, no team can rival these this killer combo.

5 years and unfortunately we haven't sniffed a SB. I think it's safe to say these two don't have as much as 5 years left playing at the same level. 3, maybe 4.

So with that said, I feel this team needs to go all in for 2011-2013. Rob from Peter to pay Paul as far as the salary cap goes. Push liabilities forward as best we can even if it means salary cap armmegendon in 2013 or 2014.

We need to leave no stone unturned in FA and go for the highest caliber players that fit what Garrett and Ryan invision for the team.

Asomuhga and Mankins come to mind. But I'm really most concerned with the OL.

OL, OL, OL. We need players. Better starters, better depth. It's what will allow us to run the ball more efficiently and protect our franchise QB.

If we run the ball more efficiently, we can run it more often. Fewer times Romo gets exposed and when we do pass the rush won't be as fearsome. And of course with a better OL, we'll pass protect better in obvious passing situations.

The key is keeping Romo in one piece.

Nice post, biggems.

I no longer even pretend to know any of the answers but I'm pretty sure Garrett and Ryan will come up with some pretty good answers if there is a season this fall.

Now that GM Jones has said Red can have his way I feel better about this team than at any time since Jimma left to work on his tan.

I am probably being a little unrealistic with FA....but I am hoping Spears wont break the bank. I am also hoping Howard and Huff will come at a reasonable price.....leaving only the OG and Asomugha as the bank breakers.

I wonder if Howard can play ILB.

This is a very nice thought for the offseason but it's likely being very unrealistic that all of that can happen in one offseason.

A little?

Logans and Asmougha are goin to approach $20mil AAV just between the two of them.

Not a bad post, Biggems, but I don't think we'll get Asomugha. I also have a suspicion we aren't going to get Mankins.

I tend to agree. Especially on the OL, I think we get cheaper guys. Not saying that's a bad idea.

that would be a dream scenario. I do agree that we should go all out for the next three seasons and worry about the future then. You are right about Ware and Romo; 3-5 for Ware and about 5 for Romo. If we can get one or two Lombardi's in that time frame I would be absolutely content if we had a few tough years after. Those are such rare talents; its like the triplets- you only get them once every 10-20 years. Need to make hay while the sun shines.

Mankins would be the #1 get for me for this reason: I think too many people under rate how important having a great guard is, even today.

True our real weakness was at RT, but outside of Eric when have we had a great RT- and he was not great after his injury. Same at LT; yes we had Wright but we did fine with the Hotel and will do OK with Free but they were and are not great. Our 90's teams had good LTs but certainly not great ones; we had real quality INSIDE the tackles. I would say just about the same with the great 70's teams as well.

One thing that stood out was Howard at OLB. In a 3-4, he would play inside and most likely in Nickel situations only, which would likely price him out of our range.

If the CBA gets worked out and if we have a free agency period and if we have a salary cap (which should be in the $145 m range) and believing the new CBA will be 18 regular season games with a 61 man roster.

There were four other LBs drafted between 1st round #18 (Bobby Carpenter) and 2nd round #38 (Thomas Howard): DeMeco Ryans, D'Qwell Jackson, Rocky McIntosh, Manny Lawson.

Tackles (Solo):
Ryans: 435
Howard: 324
McIntosh: 290
Jackson: 276
Lawson: 187
Carpenter: 102

INT:
Howard: 7
Jackson: 4
McIntosh: 3
Ryans: 2
Lawson: 2
Carpenter: 0

PDef:
Howard: 24
Ryans: 20
McIntosh: 17
Lawson: 13
Jackson: 11
Carpenter: 4

FF:
McIntosh: 8
Lawson: 6
Ryans: 5
Howard: 4
Jackson: 1
Carpenter: 0

Considering that he was demoted as a starter this season, his stats still stack up decent. He's a 4-3 OLB, but I think that he's got speed and ability to be a decent ILB; particularly in coverage. At worst, he'd add quality depth to the position and maybe fight Leon Williams (or somebody else) for a starting spot.

Asomugha is a pipe dream......but I would love to get Huff and Howard. Howard would be great as our Nickel LB. He could also give us versatility by being able to play all 4 LB positions. He can rush the passer just as easily as he can drop back into coverage. Plus, he is still a young player.

Also, Howard and Huff both played for Ryan. They know his system and coaching style....Go get em Jerry

There are two places that absolutely need serious up grades - FS and RT.
RG and DE we need to upgrade. AT DE if we can resign Spears reasonably do so. I would look hard at getting a NT in the draft and put the Rat at the other DE. That would leave our Front 7 in good shape- hopefully Ryan can light a fire under Spencer. At FS we need either the best college FS (Moore) or get a FA like Huff.
At RT we need a very good player. I do not see Sam Young being that anytime soon if at all. Brewster the same. Tyson Clabo maybe? At Guard spend the Money and get Mankins.
