Since I predicted the Dallas Cowboys would win a playoff game this year, to me they haven't over-acheived. Merely achieved.

At 12-5 with an NFC East championship and a playoff win for the first time since 1996, is it enough?

Two questions:

1. If the Cowboys lose Sunday, will you still consider the season a success?

2. If the Cowboys lose Sunday, will you want Wade Phillips back?

Well, in the mind of the players and the organization No. But, a lot of people just wanted to see that Romo could win a playoff game and be successful at the end of the season. If we go out and play our hearts out on Sunday and come up empty handed, then we do. Either way we did better than last season, and I don't think Wade is going anywhere at this pointPERIOD

Nope. The Cowboys are the hottest team in the NFC, and their main competetion are two teams who collapsed the last month of the season.

No reason they can't win three more games.

I am going to say no because it is time for this team to take it to the next level. It's not like we are the Bengals or Browns and hardly ever get to the playoffs and when we get a win we get happy. This team especially it's core players: Ware, Romo, TNew, Barber, Witten, Ratliff, the entire oline has been in the playoffs before, had homefield before and failed. Now is the team to kick the door down and get to the Super Bowl.

As for Wade, yes without a doubt I want him back. The players love playing for him and that is huge in my book.

I think the playoff win, frankly, guarantees this being a successful season. We badly needed to get that monkey off our back. I've always viewed the whole "they haven't won a playoff game since..." as a big hurdle in our development. Now, we're just another team trying to win a Super Bowl.

With that said, there will undoubteldy be an unsatisfied taste left in our mouths. Yeah, no one thought we would be here a month ago, but we're no longer the team we were then. The team we are today is a legitimate Super Bowl contender, so it'd be disappointing to get bounced in Round 2.

As for Wade, he's back without question.

I think for many fans, getting to the playoffs and winning one playoff game was a "Minimum" goal.

For a fan of any team, being Super Bowl Champion is a maximum goal.

I think it has been a successful season. Obviously we all want to see them go further, but I feel confident that the team is heading in the right direction. In the long run that is the most important thing.

If we lose Sunday I will be dissappointed, but that won't change the fact that this team made huge strides from where they were. The last 4 games alone are proof of that.

It's a moot point anyway because we're not losing.

...i think Phillips already bought his extension with the [twice] demolition of the Eagles...i'm sure he enjoyed the last two weeks with glee...Jones wants to keep the pressure on Phillips for obvious reasons...even with a close loss at Minnesota, i think Phillips returns for another year...it really gets interesting the following year...Phillips has quietly amassed some pretty good results in Dallas...2 division titles in three years...over 68% winning pct. [33-15] in his tenure...now a playoff win and a defense that's reaching some sort of zenith at precisely the right time...Jones loves how the defense is playing and i think that, and the obvious control issues, makes it very difficult for Jones to want to part with him...one thing about Jerry Jones is once he falls in love with you he has much difficulty letting go...

...i've been a detractor of Phillips this year but there's no denying that the defense has put the lights out since the beginning of December...if they go up to the Met and take care of the Vikings i think he needs to stay for more than just one more year...the emergence of Spencer and perhaps Victor Butler [Jason Williams too] with depth at safety this defense could be good for quite some time and he's shown that once you have the right groceries you can make a good meal...couple this with a still improving Romo and a full season of Jones/Austin then this team really looks formidable for seasons to come...especially if Roy Williams can step up his play because if Dallas had someone like Boldin, Doucet, Meachem, or Henderson then you'd be talking about a team with an offense to fear...

...the Eagles have fallen behind physically and that does'nt go away in one year...i think that the Eagles won't see another championship under the Reid/McNabb combo and changes are coming soon...just my opinion...McNabb rattles too easily and is less accurate in the short passing game...Reid has forgotten that the one thing you absolutely have to be able to do is run the ball in the NFC East and Dallas is on the rise...the ease at which Dallas took them apart is just astounding...i'm still having a hard time digesting it...its like someone rolled the clock back to the nineties, when they'd always rough them up in the divisional round...

...the Cowboys nemesis will once again be the Giants...they play clock-ball and good defense, with good receivers to boot...Shanahan may only be able to do so much with Jason Campbell [he does'nt have a quick release]...that said, there must be plenty of excitement in the Commanders fan-base right now...

The season will be a success for me if the Cowboys lose in Minnesota, because the Cowboys beat Philadelphia three times, and exposed McNabb and Reid for what they are.

With respect to Phiollips, my mind has changed also, and yes, I'd be in favor of bringing him back. Both he and Garrett changed the last half of the season, and I think the team responded well to both of them.

Let me just break this down.

Two NFC East titles in the last three years.
A winning record after Thanksgiving.
The first playoff win since 1996.
Dominating a nemesis for the threesweep.
A defense playing out of its mind.
A very explosive offense with multiple weapons, including a top notch quarterback.
A special teams unit that is vastly improved.
A divisional round playoff appearance.
A head coach whose philosophy the players have bought into.

No matter what happens Sunday, the future is bright. This season is already a success, but the Cowboys might as well be greedy. The sky is the limit.

I will be disappointed, and it won't have been succesful in terms of victories.

But, the reason this season could become a success is that we have finally found leaders, an identity, and have come together as a team. Not all stories end with a happily ever after...and this season might very well not. But for the first time in a long time, we will end the season not hopeful that we can change, but optimistic that this squad will be able to get the job done next season.

I'll be disappointed until the super bowl ends, but after that I'll most likely consider it a successful season.

With their playoff win, the Cowboys have shown legitimate improvement; therefore, this has been a good season regardless of its eventual outcome, in my opinion. The ultimate success or failure will be determined by whether or not they can sustain this improvement next season and, eventually, win a Super Bowl.
