Should the QB audible or call a timeout? Does it happen all the time like Monday?

Their was an interview with Dan Campbell on Tuesday and posted on the board. I think it has gone into history somewhere but it was about your very question. Someone can find it if they know where all the old threads go.

It was a guess by Dat based on what he had seen on film.

He just happened to guess right this time, I am sure there are times when players guess wrong.

Good call Dat ! That was huge. :iggles:

Offenses don't sit in a set too long these days before snapping the ball and running the play...they aren't going to give you any more time to recognize the set and digest the formation and predict the play than they have to. By the time DAT called out, "watch the shovel," I'm sure there wasn't time to be audibling again at the line...after all, it's not a trick play...I'm sure players sometimes recognize plays without saying anything. Success or failure still depends on execution most of the time.

Guys, you overly simplify this. Dat didn't call out the play ... he just called out the result. The HOW is still up the O.

Also, just because a D knows the play doesn't mean they're always in position to stop it. It's up to the O to make sure it happens.

Heck, we had 4 running plays in our Super Bowl run. EVERYONE knew we were gonna run. Does that mean Troy audibles out everytime he thinks the D has us smelled out.

Fark that. We just ran over them anyway.

Dat simply yelled out, "Watch for the shuffle pass". It didn't mean we were in Shuffle Pass Prevent D. We still had to be in position to make the play and the O still had to make play work.

But in retrospect, I think if the D smells out the TRICK plays, then the QB should have the option to adjust. Trick the trick.

But even if Dat didn't call out the Shuffle Pass, I think we were in run D and would have stopped them.

Yes Dat called it. But that call is more for the back 7 guys. They are going to be there if the play gets past the D-line.

Fergi blew that play up.

Right, they asked Campbell that very thing, and he said it's not uncommon at all for the D to call out at least some form of the play coming up. He said that usually the team calls two plays in the huddle and Drew can check to the second one if the D is set up to stop the first one, but at other times they don't have that option and simply have to run the play as best they can anyway. It was really interesting.
