finding and grooming another LT and moving him back to the right side. He played RT in college and was a dominant RT as a rookie.

From where are likely drafting, I think if a legit LT prospect is there at 15 we should be picking up the phones. Maybe spend one on the right side before trading spots with Tyron. When Tyron goes down, it will be alot easier to make adjustments with him playing on the right side than on the left

Easy answer is Yes...
I think the bigger question is: Do you let him go, or do you keep him and slide him over?

Id favor the latter. On the right side, he would be better than the best of what Collins has given us. I dont think you just get rid of dominant line. On the right side, replacing him due to injury wont hurt the offense nearly as much as on the left

I don’t care if Tyron is planning to retire or not. We should definitely be looking at an OT early if the right player drops to us. And before anyone starts, I’m not holding my breath on Josh Ball.
I can see Ball playing RT. LT he has the raw talent for but needs alot more development before you can expect quality starts. He is way more of a wild card to me

To add...

Last time we broke a toolsy non power 5 guy at LT, it was Doug Free. And that was his 3rd year, and after one solid season he completely jobbed at LT before we flipped him and Tyron

A Doug Freeish like career is very optimistic for Ball

This team can go a lot of ways. There are some intriguing talents at the Tackle position that could be available. Some smaller school prospects. Maybe it’s is an interior lineman that you plug into replace Williams. I think this team can go OL, WR, CB, or Edge player. If we re-sign Gregory and feel that Joseph is guy that will emerge in 2022.that may narrow this list to OL or WR.

It looks like it could be a deep draft for OT's in the middle of the first with guys like Cross, Penning and Petit-Frere looking like good LT prospects

Penning not as polished but has more upside than the Cross and Petit-Frere. And a nasty SOB at that. One of these guys could certainly be there. If you think one of them can be a really good LT for you for the next 10 years then it’s hard to see them passing on that kind of player.

The oline is so critical and the first round talent appears good, so yes. I’m more concerned with iol

I get the feeling that Dallas is going to trade Collins this off-season.

He needs to work on his footwork - he looked a step slow in camp before he got hurt.

The problem with Tyron isn't his play, it's his availability. Moving him to the right side isn't going to help that.

And if you move him, what do you do with your high priced Collins? Is he so dominant at RT that he'd be better than Smith at LT?

His dead cap in 2022 is nearly $14 mil, can't really release him, maybe trade him but that's doubtful based on his current level of play and having had the major surgery.

Certainly need to draft a LT first, or at least second next year, Smith is on borrowed time...

No.

A draft pick can compete at another spot.

Always play the best player at LT.
- A draft pick in his rookie year will not be better than Tyron.
- If a 2nd year player is on par or better than Tyron, then it might be time to move on from Tyron.

I would agree with you if he was not a close friend of Dak and Zeke. Let’s see what happens in the playoffs. Collins seems to be getting better as he plays more. I do think the Cowboys want to get younger and cheaper so in 2023 they can pay Diggs and CeeDee.

We're about 3 years late on drafting his replacement. We need to pull the trigger this year without reaching.

Josh Ball is already better than Doug Free at this best.

I think Cole Beasley benched more than Doug Free.

Free had the weakest upper body of any lineman that I've ever seen.

He only started because he was buddies with Garrett.
- OL coach Bill Callahan wanted to bench him but Garrett refused.

Thats a major reach to be nice. We havent seen anything at all of Ball at the NFL level.
