sign a kickoff specialist?????? If yes who and how much?

Vanderjagt had problems with groin injuries last season and is know for endzone kickoffs.......I think we will need that kickoff guy.

I don't think so, we all know how important Parcells considers those roster spots on gameday.

I sure he'd be cheap , but we're gonna miss that roster spot.

I think Chuck Norris would be a good choice. I hear he kicks it clear out of the stadiums, sometimes right through 4 foot concrete walls.

He is such a strong FG kicker, it is hard to understand why he cannot do well on the kickoffs.....do we have any old time kickers out there who can shed a little light on what makes it so hard to kick off deep for strong legged FG kickers?

Kicking FGs and kicking off are almost completely different types of kicks.

I think they'll use a wait-and-see approach. If Vanderjagt looks like he can do an acceptable job of it, they'll stand pat. If, after mini-camps and training camp, they feel the need, they can always get a kickoff guy. I can't see that one would be hard to find.

Which is why I think McBriar is going to wind up doing it.

Chuck Norris doesn't actually come in contact with the ball. The ball sees his foot coming and runs the other way. :laugh2:

I disagree. He has pretty much zero experience with kicking off. At least Vangerdrunk nows how to do it.

Although if McBriar ends up being good at it, great.

Vanderjagt was never afforded the opportunity to win back the kick off duties after he was injured in '04.

No he won't be booming kicks into the endzone, but he'll get it to the 7 or 8 and with a good coverage unit that will be adequate.

from what I have read, Vanderjagt isnt a bad on kick offs the Colts were just afraid he would get injured. If he is signed I guarentee! he kicks off.

you don't think they give him a shot? what about a new punter that can kickoff. I like McBriar, but I like that roster spot more.

His distance won't matter so much as if he can get good hang time.

I don't care - if we sign vanderjagt, our team is a tier better. Kicker was more of a need than WR.

True story.

I believe you, because Chuck Norris said if anyone ever didn't believe a legend about him he'd hunt them down and kill them.

Thats true, he doesn't have any experience. Just call it a hunch that McBriar ends up being good at it.

Can someone explain this whole kickoff thing with Vanderjack?

How is it that a K, and one known for having a strong leg, not be able to kick off?

He can kick 50+ yard FG's but he can't kick the ball OFF A TEE into the endzone?

***?

Yeah right, no way Parcells uses one of the 53 spots on the team for a kickoff specialist, not to mention one of the 45 active roster spots on one. If we sign Vanderjagt, expect us to bring in a punter with a powerful leg and this punter and McBriar will compete for a job.
