If we beat the 49ers, how many of you still believe we clinch a playoff spot?

It’s entirely possible. The team shouldn’t be as poor as they have displayed thus far, even if it’s flawed overall. I think low morale has contributed to getting annihilated in some of these games and if they gain some confidence beating the niners then I could see them potentially make the playoffs. Regardless though, this team is as currently constructed is not likely to make any noise, specifically with the pitiful run defense which we have several seasons of evidence will just not get it done.

Losing teams have made the playoffs before so it could happen

It’s likely the Cowboys do make the playoffs. Unfortunately the Lions will be there, too.
 
If they beat SF there will be multiple paths to make the post season. A loss just kills about all of them though unless they are near perfect in division play the rest of the way.
 
My guess is seven, but they’d be wrong, as the conference would have to be pretty bad for a team to clinch at 4-3

I don’t think playoffs ( Wildcard ) is far fetched . If it’s possible to get past the 49ers Dallas would need 6 more wins to get to 10 -7 .

I’m counting splits with both Wash & Philly wins against the Giants Panthers & Bengals and I think a playoff berth hinges on a Dec home game against Tampa .

If MM gets a an injury depleted team to even a one and done Wildcard does Jerry stick with him . Remember he stuck with Garrett .

It's hard to comment on the playoffs because you don't have to have a good year to make the playoffs. I think it's possible we could go 9-8 or 8-9 and make the playoffs. Even if we lose to the 49ers.

That's if we start playing better. If Dallas continues on their current path, they probably get blown out by the Bengals and Tampa.

Beating a faded NFC star won't be a sign of football fitness.
The only thing we'd get as victors would be revenge. That good feeling would fade fast.

I always believe it until they are mathematically eliminated.

If the Cowboys can just get to 4-4 then I think the younger players will improve, injured players will return and the new defense will become more familiar.

Midway through the season, the Cowboys offense will begin to pick up steam. They will determine the best version of their running attack, whether that involves the same guys, the addition of Dalvin Cook or a trade that brings a productive veteran.

If the Cowboys can get to 9-5 or even 8-7 then they will be players in the race for the division title with Washington and Philadelphia.

I don't believe one team will break away from the rest. It should go down to the wire.

All three teams play the other two during the last three games of the season, so it is going to be a bloodbath.

It'll be 'one and (heavily) done' if we even get to the play-offs. If we get to the play-offs Jerry will see the season as a success and will carry on in the same vein.
If we aren't going deep, it's better in the long-term that we fail now and show Jerry up.

Maybe, still time for things to change but the NFC has 9 teams over 500, 8 of those 2 games or better. If a 10th team joins the mix a 10 win team could get left out and the cowboys conference record drops to 1-3 with a loss against SF. It would be a tough road.
 
It just doesn't matter to me any more. I know what this team really is. Fool's Gold. Could we make it to the playoffs? I guess anything's possible.. any given Sunday right?

But ultimately, they can't win in the playoffs. Call it whatever you want: they don't have the heart, rotten from the core, aren't built for.. insert whatever you like.
