Everyone knows Bledsoe's strengths and weaknesses. End of Story. We have by now proven that we can NOT protect him, even with Max protect strategies that in themselves are hampering the offense. We played 3 decent defenses and they all made our oline look like swiss cheese. Witten is non-existent when used to protect. Our running backs can't get to rushers in time (I did a post earlier that said without shotgun our RB's can't get around Bledsoe to block for him since the rush is on us so quick and Bledsoe is slow dropping back).
I totally don't want this post to be a Bledsoe bash. He is a gutsy, classy, guy that given time can make beautiful throws. He isn't mobile and when constantly pressured will take sacks or give up bad picks. It is this teams fault for not bringing in a stronger oline and for the guys not executing the protection well enough and the coaches for not designing better protection. We new what we were buying with Bledsoe.
All this is now moot. We need to find out if Romo can play. If not we need to draft a QB this offseason or get a big name in free agency. Then we might be a contender and not a pretender. Of course we might also need a LT, although Flo was one of better oline today with the other side of line a big issue tonight.
I say play Romo for rest of the year. Not because Bledsoe is bad, but because Bledsoe is Bledsoe and this team will not contend protecting him the way they do. With Romo in there we can at least be unpredictable and use Witten and buy some time to get our very talented WR's open.
It's moot because unless Romo constantly plays sandlot (which Parcells will beat out of him) then he is our best option right now and we need to know about the kid anyway.
Just my 2 bits. I like Bledsoe, but it's time to see what Romo can do. And don't think that playing from behind against a prevent Defense with all the weird stuff going on is any indicator.
We'll see when he's the guy the plays are called for and when Romo is the guy teams prepare for.
Right now, he at least has an upside and creates a different look on offense.
