If we ever had a need in free agency I would say DE

we need to sign a starting defensive end this offseason. The draft is very thin at DE this year. So give me Hardy or Orakapo. The rest are weak or aging. Hardy while maybe a piece of ****, is the best fit for us. Sign him to a heavy incentive contract kind of like Melton.

Sorry, looking for bargain bin players in the wrong zipcode. Try looking at Tyson Alualu or Adrian Clayborn and
you'll be closer to what Dallas is thinking for the week after FO opens.

The issue is this:

We spent second and third round draft picks on Lawrence last year, and he needs to play. Are we going to spend a lot of money in free agency to sign a stud pass rusher who will then take over the right DE and push Lawrence to the bench? I don't think so.

I think we plan to give Lawrence every opportunity to prove himself this year; I also think we are happy with Mincy on the other side. Our issue is with depth...Selvie did very little, and Spencer is a free agent. We will be looking at the second tier of DEs for depth and rotation.

I think we are looking at the draft and free agency to improve the tackle position. We need to replace Melton for depth and rotation behind Crawford, and we need a starting 1-tech even if we keep Brent for the rotation. I just don't see us shopping in FA for a starting DE unless someone in tier two surprises in camp.

Mincy and Lawrence are both RDEs. Our LDE's from last year were Spencer and Selvie. Mincy doesn't play the other side so I don't know how they would know whether or not they are happy with him there. They have said multiple times they are looking for upgrades to the left side be it the draft or FA and is the reason we are being mentioned in stories as being interested in one from either of those (draft of FA). Not sure who or what tier that player will be but yes they will be looking at DE as we lost our top two LDE's from last year.

Orakpo cannot stay healthy. When you said the rest are weak and aging, you were pegging orakpo dead on. Free agency or not, our season success will depend on the decisions on draft day and the second year performance of last year's draft crop. The draft scouts need to kick some tail.

Um Lawrence can play the left side.

Upgrade:Always! But they are not going to break the bank and they are going to pick from the best of the bargain bin.
Jerry/Stephen told you that several times so forget about these high dollar FA cause they ain't coming to Dallas.

Now if any of the better guys want to sign 1-2 year incentive deals...come on down
to VR. Stephen is waiting on ya!

True but how many times has Jerry said one thing and then turned around to do the opposite? Times are changing so it will be interesting. You know after the success we just had he has to be thinking we are just a few pieces away.. Tempting

Agree with the under the radar type guys adding to the rotation. Lawrence was improving game by game and should show a big improvement this year. Mincey was starting to show why he was signed, as he was playing better also. Could still use a big time pass rusher, but they will not compromise the cap and all they been working for. I like the non-big-splash signings, as long as they are solid contributing players. Which they have been getting.

We have a lot of guys to compete, and can use some more. Someone will emerge from this group including this years draft picks.

Stephen and JG are standing by with a paddle just in case Jerry gets itchy or pitches a fit.

Mike Fisher is reporting Jerry Hughes is coming in to have a meeting with the Cowboys. Isn't that the same zip code as Hardy? You don't have any more certainty on who they will sign than anyone else here so why go in every thread acting as if you do.

Hardy is a LDE and if necessary Lawrence could play LDE if a RDE only player was signed. I fail to see how upgrading the pass rush is limited to 2nd tier players because of an unproven Lawrence

Right, every mediot & agent is linking every top FA with Dallas this weekend and I've got beach front swamp I like to sell in Florida.
I could be wrong...I've been wrong a time or two in my long life. Mike Fisher has too!!!

@Little D Yes people are wrong all the time. Saying how any tier 1 free agent won't be here over and over doesn't mean you are right no matter how many threads you say it in. A player like Hughes or Hardy could be signed with a 4-5m cap hit this year. I fail to see how anyone would assume thats out of the question.

Ya. DE in FA is about right. It is going to be price-worthy . That I'm certain of.
