Nate Allen in the first, which is starting to seem like a possibility to me would you be fine with it?


I personally would prefer we trade down, but say Allen is the best on our board and we just stick and pick him, would you be fine with it?

No. I'd rather take Golden Tate with a first than Allen. I'd trade down into the top of the second for him. But there is too much depth at safety to reach for one. We can get a good safety in the second and better yet the third.

If thats the case, you make the pick and dont think twice about it. If he's the highest rated guy at that point and we have the hole at FS, its a no brainer.

A guy who played in the Big East and has yet to perform any positional drills before the draft is going to be a first round talent? I find that hard to believe.

It's very unlikely that he's that high on their board. He's good, just not that good. Should be a 2nd rounder.

He might not offer the absolute best value but he'd likely fill a desperate need extremely well. Personally, I wouldn't be upset with the pick if all the primo LT candidates were already taken. If we only picked him a few spots too soon, it wouldn't be that big a deal. Many believe his current value is in the cusp of rounds 1-2.

It's not a desperate need. Ball can play and there's plenty of depth in this draft for our 2nd pick. Take BPA at 27 with OL, CB, S, ILB in mind and go from there.

I think there's a bit of a difference between being the highest left on the board and having a first round grade.

In the end, I'd be okay with it because he'd be a Cowboy so i'd hope the best for him, but he still isn't a first round talent in my mind. If you compare his accomplisments and measureables to safeties from previous years, he stacks up as a 2nd round guy, even if an early one.

Mays gets by as a 1st round talent almost exclusively on potential due to athletisim, but it's not like he wasn't productive.

That's really how you have to look at it. If he's a the top of our board when we pick and we can't trade down (which is highly unlikely with JJ's connections) then you take him and don't look back.

The Cowboys must see something in Mays that they can coach if they have him rated in the first round.

Then again, first round grading doesn't mean they're considering taking the guy, either. Just gives them a gauge for trades.

I just think don't think Nate will be the BPA for us at the 27th pick, and it'd be silly to reach. I think Alan Ball is going to be better than people expect, and I want Owusu anyways.

Not a fan of Allen in the first - also against Mays in the first as I don't think he has the ball-hawking skills needed with today's passing game though he is good inside the box (though he still tackles way too low).

There's some decent depth in this draft at the position; I'd much rather bulk up our o-line in the early rounds. If Earl Thomas were there I'd draft him, but he'll be long gone by our pick.
