He's jerry's guy so I can't see him doing that just yet. but jerry is getting impatient from the sounds of things around valley ranch.

if we miss the playoffs again with the type of talent we have I can't defend Garrett anymore.

I think he has to go if its another 9-7 or 8-8 season.

What yall think?

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.

Is that enough no's?

No?

No.

No, I would hope not. It's hard to have patience in this instant gratification society, but you have to.

Jerry has also said that he doesn't want constant turnover at the head coach position. He thinks the world of Garrett, and wants him to be his Tom Landry. Yes, he feels urgency, but he'll give Garrett a longer leash.

We've had 6 head coaches in the last 18 years. You just can't keep going through coaches like that and expect to be successful. It's one of the main reasons why most people are unsuccessful in the stock market. They want monster performance in a short amount of time, or they sell off, usually at a loss. At some point, you have to be willing to let things develop.

We really need to commit to getting 1 system in place, we can't keep changing it every 3-4 years. Getting players that fit into your system is the key to long term success not to keep changing the system to fit the players.

I don't think we've given Garrett nearly enough time, unless we go like 2-14 he should stay. The schedule this year is brutal we could be a much improved team and the standings at the end of the year might not reflect it.
I still think we need to address both lines before we can really compete in the NFC, playoffs would be nice but i don't expect it this year. Just getting out of the NFCE is a tall order the Giants and Eagles strengths match up perfectly with our biggest weakness

If the Cowboys don't make the playoffs, I expect Jerry Jones is going to make some sort of change.
In his own words "The window is closing", which seems to be a different philosophy than that of JG's, which seems to be taking a more patient approach in building the team.

That being said, I don't think it would be Jason Garrett. Maybe I am wrong, but he has referred to him as his "Tom Landry".

Romo on the other hand...

Absolutely not. Ever since Jimmy Johnson left, Jerry has hired/fired HC/coaching staff about every 3 years; Switzer (94-97), Gailey (98-99), Campo (2000-2002), Parcells (2003-2006), Wade (2007-mid 2010) & Garrett (mid 2010-2012). Most of these HC hirings were plain dumb decisions.

As for as Jerry getting impatient, well all he has to do is look in the mirror cause he carries the heavy burden of making many mistakes.

Don't know what Cowboys wll accomplish this year, but definitely have made some imporovement but we don't know how they stack up against other teams, some of whom also upgraded. If we get lucky and the OL protects Romo, Austin/Dez/Witten along with Murray stay healthy & a 3rd WR or more steps up , we should have a very good offense. If our defense is significantly better then it was last year, along with play of our ST, and improvement by HC and coaching staff in their calls, etc. the Cowboys should be a real threat to every team they face.

It would probably depend on WHY we missed the playoffs, as most off-season changes do.

Even if we went 1-7, or 3-13 or the players went on strike - there is no way Jerry will let him go. He's made his bed with him and we're gonna ride it out good or bad.

If we don't do well, it'll be part of the 'process' even though this league is built around parity and each team and market being competitive each year.

So far all I see a 13-11 coach that had 3 games that he really wishes he had back last year. When your team has serious holes on both sides of the ball, and is relying on smoke and mirrors to win games, the last thing you need is your coach making costly mistakes in crunch time.

He's got some work to do if he's even gonna be mentioned with the Wade Phillips of the world. (Cupcake's resume - 34-22, 2 division titles, playoff win.)

Funny how the standards have suddenly dropped for this team, it wasn't long ago they were dominating the East and if it weren't for an incredibly bad rash of injuries in 2008 they probably would've won the division 3 years in a row.

Perspective people. Let's maintain it.

If you can't defend Garrett anymore than you haven't been defending him up until now, either.

JG's going to get at least this season and next season to build. But it's not going to be an issue, anyway, because we're going to have a good season this year.

We would have to absolutely tank this season (like top 5 pick in the draft tank) for Jerry to even consider firing Garrett. Jason is Jerry's pet cat and he will stick with him until he either succeeds or it reaches an end so bitter that no other option is left but to fire him. He is convinced that Garrett is going to be a great coach and once Jerry gets something in his head, it is never easily removed.

The prevailing thought on this site seems to be that the Cowboys would be a 4-12 team if not for Romo...so maybe there's actually not the level of talent on the team that you may think.

I seriously doubt that. Jerry's committed to Garrett, but he's ultimately a business man. At 3-13, with everyone calling for Garrett's head on a platter, the value of the brand would begin to be compromised. I don't see Jerry choosing Garrett over the health of his crown jewel investment.

Now, 8-8 or 9-7 is not getting Garrett fired. There are all sorts of scenarios in which the team could wind up with a record like that, even assuming that the team plays well and is well coached.

Where did this come from? Or is it based on your view that Garrett sticks no matter how poorly he and the team perform?

Garrett will have the same job security that Andy Reid has in Philly.

Jerry loves him and is comfortable with him. He's here for 5 more years minimum, no matter what, imo.

Dude. What is it with fans of other teams thinking we're stupid enough to cut an elite QB for the sake of making a random change?

Romo is safer than Jason Garrett. Especially playing at the level he's currently playing at, end of story.

Fans around the league don't view Romo as elite. I think that's the key difference. Check my posting history, I usually call a spade a spade, hell, I've even said I like Tony Romo, and I don't have the hate towards him like most Skins fans do.

We're speaking hypothetically...

If the Cowboys somehow don't make the playoffs, I'm guessing it will either be because Romo has a poor season or he gets injured.

One thing that I thought was odd, is when Jones came out and said the Window was closing. Immediately afterwards, Romo comes out and says "nah, we're fine, we've got time", and then right after that, back comes Jones with "I'm the one that decides when the window is closing".
Keep in this in mind, I am paraphrasing from a conversation I had with a Cowboys fan, who was telling me about it (he's usually pretty accurate).

I don't know man, fans of opposing teams are not high on him for some reason. Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong.

You have the same sort of "mixture" amongst Dallas fans as well, it just can come off as a slap in the face, coming from an opposing fan.
I almost wish you didn't know I was a Commanders fan, else you likely wouldn't have had an issue with that comment :)

When Wade was here this was a talented team with countless pro bowlers that he just couldn't get over the hump.

Now that Garrett's the coach suddenly this is a team with many holes, an atrocious defense, and in the rebuilding process.

Just saying that no one even used the word 'process' when Wade was the coach, it was win multiple playoff games now or go. Now it's, 'let's just be competitive and stack good days on top of good days and we'll reevaluate things tomorrow when we look at the film.'

Intentional rhetoric like that is what I like to call mediocrity insurance and merely a crutch.

Jimmy didn't wanna guys to try and stack good days on top of good days, he demanded that they did, and he got results. Granted Garrett doesn't have the type of skins Jimmy has, but these are pro athletes and all that coach speak really just sounds like womp womp womp after a while. Especially if I'm getting paid 3 times as much as him.
