Improvement on the line depends largely on the center position and whether he’s got better

you improved at LG and got worse at LT. Hopefully we’re able to keep Dak upright and pound the ball.

Contingent on Peters being signed, how would you predict the 2022 offensive line stacks up against the offensive line in 2022?

To me, it's a smidgen overall better even if you lose Tyron Smith. There's a drop off with Peters, for sure, particularly because he's 40. But Tyron was in and out anyway, so he may give us more overall consistency, which, I think, if Peters stays healthy, ends up being at least a wash.

Then it comes down to the addition of Tyler Smith, which I see as an upgrade.

So for me, the offensive line will be slightly upgraded overall in 2022, if we're able to get Peters signed and he plays LT with Tyler at LG.
slightly better in some areas. slightly worse in others.

I see it exactly the way you so artfully articulated it.
Hope we have come to an agreement with Peters
And they are waiting for it to be official before announcing it.

The whole post is about "IF"....just don't reply if you don't want to talk theoretical... Why try to kill the thread? It's a forum and some people like to discuss things like that. It's certainly within the rules.
Of course it’s within the rules, but come on. Let him get signed.
Stephen is negotiating! This could go poof at any moment. Hopefully, Jerry can walk him through it.

If they wait too long, they could miss out on Peters.
Oh no! Miss out on something you may never need? I see what's going on here. If it were your money, you probably wouldn't do that but since it isn't, you don't even think about it. It's far better to give the young Tyler Smith the opportunity to develop into the guy that could have that job for the next decade or more.

Massive power on 4 out of 5 positions on the OL. Guys that can get push on every 1v1 in the league. Peters would also be ideal to help bring young Smith along as his game is more like what Tyler's is than Tyron.
I disagree. They can't both play LT at the same time and all young Tyler needs is opportunity and experience. So I think it's far better to accelerate his development by giving him all the snaps at LT and forget about old man Peters.

If you swing Smith out to LT, a position he hasn't spent much camp time practicing, he may be great. But what about LG and C? Based on 2021, the middle of the line becomes a real weakness.

We'll see about that because that is the current plan for week 1. Tyler Smith has played LT his whole life so whatever snaps he didn't get in camp isn't going to hurt him. He's being coached up these next two weeks and we'll find out what the young man can do for us. Resistance is futile, this is happening.

That's not what the thread is about. do you have reading comprehension issues or do you just want to be annoying?

I think the 'future' line improves as the Cowboys' rook tackle gets to develop and gain strength in status better for his status entering the NFL!

After 16 seasons, it'd be a mistake to assume the Cowboys would be getting that level of play. But Peters proved in 15 starts for Da Bears in 2021 that he can still get the job done. If Smith isn't quite ready for the spotlight, Peters could step in and start.

And in a more favorable scenario where Smith is up for the challenge, Peters would likely be the most experienced swing tackle in the league. It makes perfect sense why the Cowboys would pursue a deal w/Peters. Now all they have to do is close it.
I still prefer the experience on the outside...

Same as now with Peters maybe taking over the swing in week 5 or 6!

I think the line improved before that. Removing Connor Williams and adding tyler is positive but hes now replacing Smith and McGovern replaces Williams, Steele had replaced Lael already. Overall I think we've improved if Tyler can hold his own at Tackle which I think he will.

I can't say McGovern is any better than Williams. He certainly wasn't last year. I do feel he showed improvement this preseason, but that was mostly against backups. Steele and Collins are a wash at best, and if Collins gets back to how he was playing before the injury, he's better unless Steele takes a step up.

If Tyler Smith starts at left tackle, then we've got to expect plenty of bumps, especially when compared to Tyron. Peters also will be a step down from Tyron if he starts, but the step shouldn't be as steep. Plus, Tyler at guard brings more power to the position and could easily be an upgrade to either Connor.

I'm expecting us to have some big struggles against Tampa on the left side of the line with Tyler and McGovern, but I hope not.

I don’t care for caution. If we don’t sign Peters I won’t get a hernia. I wont be cursed for an eternity.
I can however feel good speculating like mocking.
Id like to see Tyler at LT and Connor LG when Peter is rounded out we’ll see how it’s playing. We’re better with Peters in house.

i think our guards are better.
peters instantly becomes the 2nd best tackle on the team behind tyron.
so i'd say this season's oline with tyler smith and jason peters is better than last years oline.
