I really think that there are a lot of players that are going to be available around the 22nd pick that we will see as having equal value. Since we don't have to target one specific position, I think that it is pretty likely that we will try and trade down. However, if we do that, then who might be willing to trade up and who will have the amunition to do it?
Chiefs with the 23rd pick: If we trade down, I doubt it will be just one spot, that usually doesn't happen except for in the first few picks of the draft. However, if there is some CB or DT that the Chiefs really want and we are getting calls from other teams then we might be able to convince them to switch spots with us. If we did, all they would have to give up to us is their 160th pick in the 5th round and we would have to give them our first 6th pick in return to make the trade equal. Regardless, I seriously doubt this would happen.
Pats with the 24th or 28th pick: Another doubtful trading partner. I get the sense that they don't like to give up pics to move up. They have a ton of picks and if they really are targetting someone then they would be looking to move up higher than the 22nd pick. If Samuels is traded then they might like a CB and might be worried the Chiefs would take him. But if Samuels leaves then they are going to get a higher pic in return. If they moved up with their 24th pic they would have to give us their 125th pick in the 4th round and we would have to give them on of our late picks. If they traded up with their 28th pick then they would have to give us their 91st pick in the third round and we would have to send them our first 6th round pick. Again, highly doubtful.
Jets with the 25th pick: This one might be a possibility. They need a CB and a OT and both the Pats and Chiefs need CBs, so they might be willing to trade up. They might always want to trade up to get Olsen. But the numbers don't work well. They would have to send us the 164th in the 5th round and the 177th in the sixth round and that still would not be enough. So, it's doubtful unless we started exchaning positions with later picks.
Eagles with the 26th pick: I really can't see us being trading partners with the Eagles. Neither team would be willing to do something to help the other team. Plus, for them to trade up with us it would cost them about a 4th round pick and they don't have one this year.
Saints with the 27th pick: This is probably the most likely trading partner so far. They need a CB and a WR and I could see them really targetting Olsen because I think Peyton might view him as his Witten. It would cost them about 100 points to trade up with us and they have the 123rd and the 125th picks in the 4th round. Together, those would equal about 96 points, so that might do it or they might throw in a 7th rounder. For some reason, I really think the Saints want Olsen, so this one might happen. It would give us 3 4th round picks. And we could still get a good CB or S at this position or even a G or a WR.
Ravens with the 29th pick: Not likely. They need a Ot and a CB, but they probably don't have the picks to trade up. They have no 3rd round pick this year so they would have to give up pretty much all their later picks to make the move.
Chargers with the 30th pick: They are looking at safeties, receivers and linebackers. We certainly have a intertwined history with them, we always seem to be targeting the same positions or the same players, so the trade would make sense, especially since Wade would know the people over there. It would take their 96th pick in the third round and their 129th pick in the 4th round to make it happen.
Bears with the 31st pick: For some reason, I really think the Bears and the Skins will work out a trade before the draft for Briggs. If that were to happen then we definitely wouldn't be trading with the Skins because they have no picks to trade. If it doesn't, then the Bears might be looking at Olsen or a OT or a CB. They would have to give up their 94th pick in the 3rd round, the 130th pick in the 4th and the 168th pick in the 5th round to make the trade.
Colts with the 32nd pick: The Colts have two third round picks, two fourth round picks and two 5th round picks, but no second round picks. So, they may be willing to trade up, but they may also be looking to trade some picks to move into the second round. If a guy like Branch dropped then I could see them moving up to grab him. They also need a safety to replace Doss and some linebackers. It would take their 98th pick in the 3rd round, the 131st pick in the 4th and the 136th pick in the 4th round to move up.
Raiders with the 33rd pick: The Raiders have a ton of needs, so it would not make a lot of sense to trade up and give picks away. But you never know what Davis might do and if he wants to move up to take a OT, DT or TE then Jones would probably be one of the first people he would call because they are friends. For them to move up to our pick it would take their 99th pick in the 3rd round and the 100th pick in the 4th round to do it, we would probably have to send them one of our 7ths to make it equal.
Lions with the 34th pick: Another team that needs a ton of help. But they do have a lot of picks in the draft so if they see someone available at our pick they might want to make the move. Their greatest needs are at ILB, DE, QB and there probably won't be any players at those positions at 22 that would be worth trading up for. But they also need secondary help, so they might see someone they like. To make the trade they would have to give up the 66th pick in the third round but we would have to send them our 5th round pick and our first 6th round pick to make the trade equal.
Bucs with the 35th pick: They need help at the D-line, the O-line and at safety. They could send us their 68th pick in the third round to move up, but we would have to send them our 1st 6th round pic and our 1st 7th round pick to make the trade equal.
Browns with the 36th pick: they have too many needs and not enough draft picks to be making a trade like this, unless they were willing to give up next year's first round pick to make the trade. But that is doubtful, I can't imagine a team doing that unless someone really big dropped (like Quinn).
Bears with the 37th pick: Doubtful they would trade up from here to our pick since they have a pick inbetween, unless they switched picks with the Skins for Briggs. Even then, I would find it doubtful that they would make this trade.
I didn't go any further than this because I doubt we would be willing to trade down any further because I think most of the good CBs and safeties and even offensive line guys like Blalock would be gone after about here. Additionally, if we went any further we would probably only do it if we could get a first round pick from next year's draft and I don't see that happening simply because most teams aren't willing to give that up unless it is for a QB they really like and I doubt see any QBs being available at the 22nd pick that would be worth the 22nd pick.
