Picks in future drafts are generally valued a round later than the current.
Would you prefer a 2021 #2 or a 2022 #1

Here is a quote from Gil Brandt that I found interestingHaving 2 firsts is always preferred but having said that, with the amount of defensive talent that fits our needs and falls into that 20-60 range, I'll take the extra second this year. Would go along way to helping turn this defense around.
The financiers of the world have gotten filthy rich w/gimmie-now thinkers.
I'm waiting for an NFL franchise to employ the same tactics. The Dolphins do seem to be honing in on the idea.
A second round pick is worth HALF of a first. Make yourself, your team, your family poor with that kind of trading. Yes @J-man...I see you living as a very poor man w/that kind of thinking.
You give me two dollars, I give you one. Wanna play again?

“This year, a pick you’d get in the fourth round might be the quality of a sixth-round pick next year.”
Every hear the phrase, a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush?
Better check again what you think you've got in your hand. Could be NOTHING.
ALL draftees are in the bush, my friend, and this season the bush is less promising.
Think about it this way. You take Chicago's 2nd this year. You get the 20th pick in the 2nd round. You take their first next year, maybe you get the 10th pick in the first round. Could be a big discrepancy in valueHaving 2 firsts is always preferred but having said that, with the amount of defensive talent that fits our needs and falls into that 20-60 range, I'll take the extra second this year. The 2022 1st is still the more valuable assetOr the opposite. You make a trade with the Patriots coming off of a rare down year and they rebound and that 2022 pick is near the end of the round.
Not even a debate. 1st rounder.Picks in future drafts are generally valued a round later than the current.

The wait doesnt really matter. Its not like you are waiting 3 years. A 2022 1st is adding more talent to your team than adding a 2021 2nd. You are also getting more contract control with a 2022 first rounderThat you’re waiting a year to cash in, decreasing that ‘value’. So you take less this year and wait a year to see any payoff.
Its deep, but not great. Alot of adequate starters, but it might be light with actual plus players on day 2. Plus S after Holland is very weakRather have the extra 2, a lot of good defensive depth within the top 100, we can address many areas with quality players.
Think the extra 2 gets us a good player, but it also allows us to jump back into rd 1 if we love a player. Even if they didn't go that route, 5 picks in the top 100, could really improve this defense, where we may get 3-4 impact startersIts deep, but not great. Id wait a year for a very good starter, VS taking an adequate starter now
Seems the most likely trade partner is Chicago, who will either be starting Dalton or a rookie at QBIn general id take the extra 1 more often than not. However, there are a few factors that I'd take into consideration. Who are we trading with? That matters to me. Where is their second round pick this year? How far back are we dropping? Etc. Blanket answer - I'll take the 1 next year. Especially considering we aren't contending this year anyways
