If we trade down would you prefer a 2021 2 or a 2022 1

Which would you prefer

The wait doesnt really matter.

You go ahead and believe that so you can feel you’re right. Even if it’s untrue.

Its not like you are waiting 3 years. A 2022 1st is adding more talent to your team than adding a 2021 2nd. You are also getting more contract control with a 2022 first rounder

And more expense as well. It’s clear that you only want to see one side of the argument - your own.

Depends on the year of the draft. This year is very strong and deep. Next years might be a weak class

A 2nd rounder this year, so we can package some of these pick that we have to get back in the first round and get another position of need (let’s say we trade back to 15th & get Horn), I’d like to get back in the first round to get a player like Barmore or Moehrig. If that came to fruition that’s a dream case scenario, we might even be able to trade back to the 20’s and get Farley + a couple of picks.

Picks in future drafts are generally valued a round later than the current.

Would you prefer a 2021 #2 or a 2022 #1
I took the 2022 1st but it may depend on the team

if they have a very high 2nd this year and project to be much i proved, I might opt for the 2021 2nd.....but normally I want the 1st

Depends on the team. If we trade with KC for example that first is going to be in the 30’s

Legit question in NFL trade circles

just a note
That 2021 1st is usually valued as a mid to higher 2021 2nd (so maybe 40-45 range)

So if the team offering to trade has a 2nd rounder lower than that this year (say 52, for example) they would then probably have to add another pick

example
If Chicago offers to trade up to 10, maybe the 2022 1st would be enough, but picks this year’s 20 and 52 would not be enough.

I'd take the 2021 second rounder. This team needs a lot of help, and who knows what will happen next year? Maybe Smith and Collins both can't go and have to retire. Maybe the free agents obtained this year all leave for other teams after this year. Need somebody that was here all year and got some experience ready to step in.

And where the pick comes in the draft next year depends on how well, or poorly, the team you got it from does. What if you got the 2022 pick from a team that was 4-12 this year but made a dramatic turn around and went 12-4 the next year? Now you've got probably the 28th or later pick. Still a first rounder, but how much better is it than say, the 4th pick in the second round? Of course the opposite could happen, then you'd have probably a top-5 pick.

Taking the 2022 pick has more uncertainty, gotta get players now....

Its deep, but not great. Alot of adequate starters, but it might be light with actual plus players on day 2. Plus S after Holland is very weak

Id wait a year for a very good starter, VS taking an adequate starter now

No guarantee next year will be a deep draft either, or they'll be a top notch player at a position you really need, like say both Smith and Collins retire after this year.

Cowboys have a lot of needs, if there's no really good safety available, then go OT or LB or DE or CB, all could use an infusion of talent. I just prefer the certainty of the players that ARE available this year.

But there's no definite answer, both choices have risk/reward....

I'd go with a 1st rounder next year all day long, twice on a Sunday.

If we have another terrible year, you still get the enjoyment of watching your 2022 1st team trade partner lose and increase the value.........that's the theory. Miami must have loved watching Houston results thinking this gets better and better.

I'm a gambler and this just adds to the enjoyment of the season.

You offering a different view point is not why I called you pissy. I called you that because you got pissy

I got ‘pissy’ because you did. Accept your own personal accountability.

If you can’t handle a differing viewpoint, don’t create the thread.

No, I held my ground. At no point in my post did I show you any disrespect. You definitely showed me disrespect. Before I called you pissy, I showed you no disrespect in this thread. If you feel that I did, maybe you expect too much
