Why wouldn't they be interested in a player like Ayodele (who can play in this league) over a 5th or 6th rounder who would be a longshot to make their final 53?

maybe Fisher doesnt think much of him as a player. He played against him a couple times a yr when Ayodele was in Jacksonville

There is the possibility that Ayodele wasn't on the list of players submitted to the Titans for their consideration.

That's uncalled for :) . It was a reasonable suggestion. I've been wondering the same thing.
Aw hell, I know he's joking. He knows I like his sense of humor.

Maybe the Titans think that if the players are on offer they will be released before the season and pick them up then. Although, I can't imagine they offered a player that was really wanted.

Interesting. Never heard that. Doesn't bode well for Akin. Hard to believe someone would take a 6th rd pick over Carp.

I can understand why Del Rio would rather have the draft pick instead of Ayodele. Read a few quotes that I pulled from Del Rio's database (http://thinkexist.com/quotes/jack_del_rio/):

“Good size, speed and some pass-rush ability. We'll let him come in and compete,”

“It was an opportunity to acquire a linebacker who's a good player and fits our system. It wasn't anything that was too costly or too difficult to pull off.”

“We see him as a guy who's played well, has started, so he has experience, has speed and can help us on (special) teams. We'll let him grow into a role.”

Del Rio loves guys with speed and wants linebackers that can get after the QB. Ayodele does have good size but isn't exactly a speed burner or a threat at pressuring the QB on a consistent basis. Del Rio might not believe that Ayodele will fit into there system either, and since he would be traded, they Titan would probably take on his contract, which might be too much to be paying for a backup special teamer. At least they can draft someone on the cheap that has potential to be good and will fit their system better.

and he reportedly played very well for them last yr. I liked Fowler when he was here...wish we could have kept him around as an ILB...kid could really hit

David

Fowler was a solid player, so was Boiman, and so was Shanle.

We really had good depth at LB.

Fowler was decent, but the other two were nothing better than we have now...Boiman was a special teamer and Shanle was just not that good IMO.

I just wish we would draft better (Carpenter, 43 tight ends) - then we wouldn't always have to take a flyer to make up the draft deficits with Underwoods, Johnsons, and ex-baseball players....

...and Akin Ayodele is probably going to be gone, why not offer him instead of a draft pick?

as i read it, the titans are looking for a fith rounder but they will be pleased if theya get a sixth for pacman. IMO Akin has more worth than a fifth round draft pick.
