If you could choose one draft pick to perform like Parsons did last year, which one would it be?

It's the middle of the summer. I'm just wondering out loud.

I'm not asking who's likely to do that. NONE of them are likely to do that. I'm asking who would you pick if it was up to you. Do you go another defensive guy and create a defense that would be absolutely terrifying? Do you go O-line and create something that's just an absolute force? Or maybe WR? Maybe one the LB's?

For me, I think the best thing we could do for this offense is finish the defense. If I could pick one player from our draft picks that would perform at a Parson's-like level, I'd go with Ridgeway. First, having a later round pick blow up like that would make for a scary overall draft. Second, having a DT who was a beast on the d-line would change everything from the first whistle to the final tick of the clock.

Which draft pick would you choose?

Same here.

A stud on the DLine would change this D/team more than any other position at present.

Ridgeway, more than likely, won't receive enough snaps to make a huge difference. We have two guys on our offensive line that have proven they can play at a high level year in year out. I'd like to have that third OL begin to prove himself, so I'll go with Tyler Smith.

I want a devastating defense. One to be feared.

The offense will be fine. They tried the ball control offenses to protect the defenses. And it worked to a degree. But in the playoffs those defenses got taken apart.
Now Moore could have done better last season with more ball control but he didn't, as that still helps the best defenses. But since Moore insist to be pass happy, we need that devastating defense.

I would say Dak. He was a draft pick. If he played at the same level as Parsons we'd be golden.

Yeah Sam Williams or John Ridgeway. Flip a coin. Either would be a huge boost.

If Damone Clark could play this year he would actually surpass anything Micah has done or ever will do in the league.

First off - thanks for a fun thread OP. Second - there is no wrong answer!

I talked myself into and out of every single draft pick for all the reasons you'd imagine - shutdown corner, fearsome bookend pass rushers, dominant WR, Beast DT and so on.

I settled on the position I think would have the biggest impact on the most important players. No not OL, though it was a close second. I think the OL at current is good enough to win and even dominate if the rooks (esp Smith) perform as expected.

My answer - TE Jake Ferguson turned Travis Kelce / George Kittle would be other-wordly for this offense and our $$$ QB and RB. Dak and KM are both considerably better at running 2 TE offense than they are running 3 WR sets. I hope that changes but that's the reality. The way the field would open up for the other receiving threats and the ability to disguise run vs pass when you are able to have a demon TE in on those heavy packages makes things extremely difficult on defenses.

Tyler Smith.

If you analyze the Cowboys 2021 season, the #1 issue was the lack of a consistent running game.
- In 2021, all of their losses were in games when the rushed for less than 100 yards.
- They only won 1 game when they rushed for less than 100 yards.
- i.e. 6 losses and 1 win when rushing for less than 100.

The #1 problem in the playoff game was the OLine.
- Dak was sacked 5 times.
- They only had 77 yards rushing.
- They won zero games when rushing for 77 or less.
- i.e. 4 losses, zero wins when rushing for 77 or less.

I would go with DT like an Donaldson, I think in big games defense is the difference. They are able to go out and slow down an offense and get after the opposing teams QB they give them the best chance of winning. Dallas offense of the 90's got majority of the love in Dallas but those defense in my view were the real difference makers in post season and in big games. This past season Rams defense in post season gave up 20 or less points in 3 of the 4 games including the SB

Answer: Tyler Smith

An offense's best contribution for winning games is chewing up clock by running the ball consistency and passing the ball with the least amount of distress possible--which directly aids receivers. Keep the opponent's offense OFF the field as long as possible. Keep your defense ON the sideline as fresh as possible so they are on equal or better footing when the opponent's offense does step on the field.

100% right on every point. It didn't take much to make me flip from DL to OL.

You're probably right. The real answer is right here. Any of them. If you hit a player of Parsons' level two years in a row at any position, you're a serious contender.

Given the context of the question I'd actually take Matt Waletzko over T. Smith. if Tyler plays up to par given his draft position and Waletzko blows up that's two very good OL in one draft instead of one. OL is certainly a great answer either way.
I like your thinking!
