If you get Von Miller

His contract is affordable, so you keep him for now if you can't trade him.

I love Miller, but don't think the Cowboys will target him at #9.

You take Miller without thinking twice and worry about Spencer later. We could probably trade him later on for a 4th. Or at worst you have a good situational pass rusher sitting on your bench. Miller is the type of prospect you can't pass on no matter what your roster looks like.

size dog < size fight

I dont see a ton of fight in Von. He seems to go for the edge and thats about it. No real sense of urgency for anything else and no fight in the run game

Nope not at all. I'm from NJ with no ties or general feelings at all towards the Aggies. Miller is a consensus top 5 prospect and it would be pretty dumb to pass on him at #9.

We'll agree to disagree on that one. I think he gives effort in the run game, and I think he plays a lot more physically than he's given credit for.

His demeanor is a lot like Ware actually in that he's not terribly animated on the field, it's just a personality quirk. Not everyone can be Ray Lewis.

Miller's a freak, he can play any LB position. You don't pass up a playmaker like that if he drops to 9, although we don't need to worry about it because he's pretty much a top 5 lock.

consensus top 5 pick - in your opinion

hes being way over hyped - IMO

Rush linebacker isn't a big need

it would surprise me to see Cam and Miller fall out the top 9

this is my opinion

because you know that Wash will jump all over Cam

Please find me a draft site/scout site/analyst that has Miller ranked outside of their top 5 overall prospects. It's your opinion, and pretty much your opinion alone, that Miller is overrated. You're blinded by your love for Smith if you think he is actually close to being a better prospect than Miller

I agree, Miller is special...

I like Miller and agree that everyone has him ranked top 5... however, I might like Aldon Smith better for our defense.

Miller is the better athlete, no doubt, but Smith is the better pass rusher, IMO. He is more natural at it and uses his hands much better. Also, his size is much better suited for a 34... particularly a SOLB in a 34.

Miller will get absorbed by huge OT's with long arms. Smith's arms are longer than almost any of the OT's that will be blocking him and he will have much easier time shedding the block once they lock on. Miller's only chance really is running around the block.

Not to mention that when we go to a nickel and are playing in a 4 man line, Smith could play OLB, DE or even a 3-technique DT in certain passing downs.

Smith is the better fit in Dallas IMO, but I realize I might be the only one who thinks so.

I wouldn't be made if they selected Aldon Smith either...

Why would I do anything with Spencer? If I draft Miller I will still need a SOLB. Miller is not a 3-4 SOLB. SOLB has to do alot more that just rush the passer. WOLB is the rush LB and we have Ware. Miller is a WOLB not a SOLB.

SOLB has to be able to take on blocks and doubles, tackle a RB one on one, cover the TE or RB out of the flat, and rush the QB. Miller can rush the QB no doubt, is pretty good in coverage, but is god awful vs the run when the RB comes right at him.

If I drafted Miller I would play him at RILB and kick Lee in to LILB behind James.
Before you say thats putting Miller out of place, well so is putting Miller at SOLB. Miller is good in coverage so he can drop back which the RILB does. He has the speed to go side line to sideline, he can bull rush and blitz. Put him next to Ware and watch out. The RILB never has to take on a RB one on one. He has the DL in front of him and LBs on each side. Miller would be a great RILB.

I say wait a year before we cut Spencer, he is a top 5 3-4 SOLB in the NFL. See what he can do with Ryan as DC. If he fails there will be some good DE/OLB prospects in next years draft. Quinton Coples is a beast and would be a day one replacement next year for Spencer if Spencer doesn't cut it.

I doubt we look OLB unless it is very late. A lot already invested in that position.

Yeah, I'd be happy with either. Smith is a really good prospect and I love what he brings to the table. His arms are incredibly long. He's just such a natural pass rusher and he is very good coming from the DT position. I can only imagine how Ryan would be able to use a guy like that along with Ware and Spencer.

We could field a 4 man line in the nickel (or the 46 when he runs it) of:

Ware/Smith/Ratliff/Spencer

Ryan would have some major chess pieces.

And we still could go OL in the second or in a move up to the late first round.

I still hold out hope that we might end up with Aldon Smith and Carimi from round 1.
