Isn't there some 30% rule, so that you cant increase a players salary by more than 30% each year. the jump from 1mil to 4mil seems alot more than that.

That died with the CBA extension.

the truth is the cap keeps getting larger and larger every year, and outside of the high-priced contracts on the team, they don't have much in the way of contracts, so they continually release cheaper players to get money under the cap

cap getting larger, plus releasing depth equals the Commander's strategy

Well I don't disagree that the cap grows each year.

But for the 2nd piece to be true (carving $$ out of depth) you have to sign cheaper depth. You can't just cut someone and not replace them and league minimums tend to escalate over time as well.

And I'm not debating the Skins strategy. Rather I don't think we know enough specifics to predict certain cap doom and when.

Sooner or later Commanders will have to go thru cap hell but by then they will only be able to field an ironman squad of 11 players.

I think they kept the decrease rule though. Like a player on the Steelers couldnt reduce his contract to the minimum so that his team could have the space to sign expensive players and hopefully make a trip to the superbowl again. I think it had something to do with the Broncos in 97-98 being over the cap technically or something, im not sure.
