Here are a few of the best out there on the open market:

Jacquizz Rodgers- Just turned 25 and is a free agent. One of the best third down backs in the league. Was PFF’s number one RB in pass protection. Under-used in ATL.

Roy Helu Jr. - The most rounded running back of the three, but was third in pass blocking efficiency in 2013. Just turned 26 and is a better fit in a zone blocking scheme.

Maurice Jones Drew- Likely to be released by the Raiders, finished as PFF’s 2nd best RB in terms of pass protection. Will turn 30 next month.

Any others you would like to see added to the list?

I would take Rodgers over Dunbar for sure. Isn't that Dunbar's primary knock? I wonder if he would fetch much more than the vet min.?

There really is something to be said about a RB that can do it all.
Just the fact that a team has to trot a specialized player screams to the defense what they're probably going to do.

When you don't have to replace players to do the special things that position doesn't normally do- well that's a good thing, strategically speaking.

I was surprised we didn't end up making better use of the screen game with Dunbar last season. I thought that was going to be a fairly significant part of our offense.

If we don't resign MURRAY or get ap. I can see us doing a committee like the Giants years ago.

It's weird that you heard about Dunbar and the screen game before the season, and then it never happened. Like he was going to be like a Reggie Bush.

It seemed like they were excited about it, right? And it made a lot of sense based off of what else works for us in the offense.

I think Murray was just too effective to take out of the games last season.

That one screen pass that Dunbar caught from Romo vs Seattle on a very crucial 3rd and long was a thing of beauty, and a play that I thought was going to be a staple in our offense. I mean it was just beautiful and a real back breaker for Seattle.

I'm a fan of Helu and always wanted to add him. Dunbar isn't my cup of tea.

I'm surprised to see MJD on the list as he hardly even played this past season.

I like Helu, too. He's one of those guys that just makes some plays in the role he had in that offense. We've got guys like that, too, at RB now. Not special, but they do their jobs when called on to give us a play or three. I'm not sure I like Helu any better than Randle or Dunbar, or Williams for that matter, in that capacity, but I see him as a similar type of contributor.

About the only back I'm specifically looking to improve on is Clutts, honestly. Of course, DeMarco's situation means we're probably going to need to do something with our starter, but that's business and not a team-fit thing.

You could probably add Moreno to the list as well. He would be a "complete" back to pair with someone who is more of a runner (Williams?)

It did, maybe you are right, but then again, there are only soo many passes to go around. How long did it take them to find out, to use Beastly in the slot?

I bet you will post the same next year,we just don't utilize the short passing game and I still can't figure out why.

I don't know for sure, that that seemed likely to be a late year adjustment on our part when teams started getting serious about defending Murray on early downs. Though I think Beasley would have been effective early from that slot even on better CBs. He's tough to cover if you can't jam him.
