All the people who want to go into rebuilding mode, please explain if you were GM how would your plan go & how fast do you think you could get this franchise back to competing for championships? Do you fire the HC & who are you hiring as the new HC? Do you just trade your good players, Miles-Witten-Ratliff-Ware-I'd put Romo there too and stock up on picks? lol, I'd like to see some of these ideas.. Do you stock up on the o-line-dline first in this next draft & in free agency, then get your QB the year after.. Love to hear some of the thoughts going on from the peeps on this forum...

I don't really believe in rebuilding.

As far as I'm concerned, unless you have some super freakishly old team with no young talent at all the only real "rebuilding" you do is getting a new QB.

A few years ago the Cowboys were ancient. Now we have Tyron, Mo, Lee, Carter, Church, Dez, Demarco, etc.

So I guess if you want to rebuild, you get rid of Romo and take a QB in the first round. If he hits, you're fine(see Ryan, Rodgers). If he kinda hits, we're right back where we started(See Stafford, Cam), if he misses, you're completely screwed for as long as you keep trying that QB (see Bradford, Sanchez)

Edit: And obviously get a new coach. Since our last two coaches haven't held a single person accountable, it's time for someone who yells a little more.

I'd start by actually addressing the biggest weakness with the team. The trenches. I wouldn't spend 50 million on a cornerback who isn't elite. I'd get me an offensive line who wouldn't get my quarterback killed and also a reliable, football smart, and consistent group of wide outs. I'd hire a real offensive cordinator and get another guy besides Ware who can rush the passer consistently.

At what point in his career was Carr ever considered elite? He was a very good CB in KC and the market always dictates price and that is what it cost to get him. Would you rather have TNew back there?

I never said Carr was considered elite, but he was paid like it. As a GM you have to make a decision do I spend money on a corner or draft one? You don't do both. That was just stupid on the part of Jerry Jones. You can't just ignore the obvious weakness on the offensive line yet he did it like always. I would've drafted Claibourne like they did and spent the money they used on Carr on an offensive line man like Carl Nicks.

We have a good secondary great it doesn't matter because the offense sucks so bad due to horrible pass protection and also run blocking. The defense can play great all year long, but if the offense can't score the football consistently then we'll be sitting on out butts once again watching the postseason and probably seeing our arch rival the Giants win another Super Bow.

If MO-Carr play that physical and shut down good WR's like the Giants have on a consistent basis it'll be well worth the investment, and add a couple nice pass rushers our defense is going to be scary good with Lee & Carter manning the middle & Church being able to fly around in a Roy Williams type of role when he first got here making plays not having to help over the top... Another challenge with Julio Jones & Roddie White.. Excited to see if they can get on a roll of shutting these WR's down

Pretty much everything this guy said.

The answer is always to start in the trenches. The defense is good enough for now but the OL will get Romo killed and by the way kill the run game as well.

Romo would be the last replacement while transforming the OL and DL into championship group for the next QB (two years or less if he gets enough concussions).:(

I would start by hiring and OC and leave Garrett to concentrate on being HC.

I would implement clearly defined systems for both Offence and Defense to make the identification of talent (both in the draft and in free agency) who can actually play for the Cowboys easier and allow us to have replacements in the wings when current starters get past their sell by date/injured/too expensive.

I would balance my drafting across all positions instead of focusing on the so called “Skill” positions (WR, TE, CB).

Rebuilding is the wrong word, but it's easy: stop Al Davising the team by drafting and/or signing athletic players with no intelligence, awareness or ability to learn. The only position where I don't really care much about intelligence is corner.

At every other position, this team gets better by getting less stupid.

Garrett has actually done some of this - which is why I think he is an excellent head coach. But just like Jerry is an excellent owner and poor GM, Jason may be the worst offensive playcaller and game manager in the NFL. We saw it on display in Baltimore, and now we saw it again with the 2nd/3rd/4th and 1. Take a shot on 2nd and 1, fine.

But in that situation, with that much time, not to get the 1st on either 3rd or 4th was classic Garrett playcalling.

But in terms of roster changes, we're on the right track already.

The window IS closing on this team. Romo is at or past his prime, Witten is on the downside as is Ware and Ratliff.

I would shore up the offensive line, get rid of Bryant and have someone else call the plays which would let JG manage the game better. I would find and groom Romo's replacement as he is a free agent in 2014. Still playing at a high level, fine resign him, if not you are prepared.

Long term a real GM and no more going inexperienced and cheap at head coach.

It's really silly to say the window is closing on this team. The window is closing on the Romo/Ware/Witten led portion of the team. The window is opening for the Lee/Mo/Tyron/Carter/Dez(?) portion of the team.

I would have a simple plan in the offseason:

1.Get me some pass rushers. Pass Rushers= turnovers. The Dline is the oldest unit on the team and it needs an infusion of youth.

2.Replace Free. I have long been a supporter of Free, but his strength has not improved and it's to the point where I don't think he gets better. If Ryan Clady somehow makes it to FA, than you go hard after him.

3.Draft another RB-preferably one with speed.

4.Draft a QB in the middle rounds (3-5).

If you wish for a better OT, think big. Jake Long is a free agent. I don't really know if a mid-round QB would really serve any purpose. The odds on actually getting a QB that can start one day is slim with the later QB picks.

To rebuild, a team needs to be successful top to bottom in the draft. This year is just the most recent example of the Cowboys getting next to nothing from the draft class. Mo is playing great for a rookie, but the rest of the draft class is only contributing on special teams, on IR, or the practice squad.

We don't need to rebuild. We need a new coach, and one that has the balls to stand up to Jerry and not afraid to stand up to these players. JG is scared of confrontation with the top guys on the team. I've never seen him yell at Dez. After all the screw ups that guy has had on the field he never gets yelled at? Ridiculous. A new coach would change this team in a heartbeat. If we rebuild with another quarterback Ware's career would be a waste.

there is just too many holes and issues on this team. if you want a list:

1. HC is horrible game manager
2. HC/OC is horrible at directing the offense and play calling.
3. OL is mess. only ONE keeper in the bunch.
4. WR makes me sick. Austin is no longer hungry to prove himself and Bryant is his own worse, stupid enemy.
5. Do we have an NFL caliber RB....that can stay healthy?
6. DL needs to be completely rebuilt as well.
7. Not sure Lee can stand the physically of playing ILB in the NFL. too breakable.
8. Is there an OLB opposite Ware?
9. Can we find a safety that can get INTs?
10. We miss playmakers on the D.
