If you were Rod, what would you do to get Taco going?

All Rod can do is coach and encourage. The rest is up to Taco to either sink or swim.

I love Rod, but in my mind Tapper should be in the rotation more than Taco. It could be that they want to limit Tapper's snaps from a physical standpoint. I think Taco should come in toward 4th quarter when Oline starts to wear down. Get those fresh, young legs going and let him use his quicks. We are going to have a DYNAMITE rotation when Moore and Irving gets back!

I would have Taco start wrestling bears... Be like Rod

To get the best out of Taco, I would leave his development up to Marinelli and be thrilled to do so. I don't think Marinelli needs input from any of us to know how to bring out the best in Taco. He's been renowned for many years at his craft and for his expertise in developing his charges.

Charlton couldn't have gotten better tutors than those he has with the Cowboys. Leon Lett is pretty doggone capable of helping his cause as well. More than likely, nobody knows any better how to use length and strength to advantage. Taco Charlton is in extremely good hands. ;)

he played one game so far, last time I checked...get him going? reps, more reps

Someone compared it to the Ware/Merriman draft. I would love to eat crow on Taco, but he looks soft right now. He needs to hit the weights. If he lacks explosiveness and power, then that combo usually doesn't work well in the NFL.
Comparing the situation of the Ware/Merriman draft is not the same as comparing Ware's talent to Taco's.

I'll spell it out for you.
1) The fans were split on who to take
2) They were taken very closely together in the first round (11,12 and 28, 30)
3) Merriman jumped out to an early lead, giving some fans aneurysms.
4) In the end, Ware was far far better than Merriman.

Numbers 1-3 are very similar to the Taco/Watt conversation right now. The point being made is that anyone making a decision this early is pretending they know something they don't.

If we'd drafted TJ Watt, this thread wouldn't be necessary. I was screaming at my TV when we passed on Watt, and I'll be screaming at my TV every time Taco's on the field. I hope that I'm wrong, but I know I'm not.

If we drafted TJ Watt, you'd be wondering what we were going to do with a 240 pound linebacker in the 4-3. We're not going back to a 3-4. You wanted Watt to replace Sean Lee at Will?

Unfortunately, he's looking more like a Marcus Spears in that draft. An average at best DE.

Like I said in another thread... The SCOUTS wanted TJ Watt, but the coaches over-ruled them. I trust the scouts on this.

TJ Watt is a prototypical 3-4 OLB in my opinion and would not do well in a base 4-3. Right now you have a sample of 1 game and you are projecting 10 years out based on that data. And that data is highly suspect. TJ Watt played a rookie QB Kizer on a really, really bad, rebuilding team. Watt's interception was nothing more that a rookie QB brain fart.

First time I am hearing that the scouts wanted Watt over Charlton. Even if true, I imagine every team goes through the same thing. Very rarely do scouts, coaches, and GMs agree. Sometimes the scouts are correct, sometimes the coaches are correct, and sometimes the GM is correct.

I guess most scouts were pretty high on QB Paxton Lynch last year. I know GM Jerry Jones was high on Lynch. I don't know where the coaches stood on Lynch but, in the end, the price was too much and Jerry Jones passed. What did Denver's scouts, GM and coaches see in Lynch? Who knows? But, GM Elway looks like a fool for taking Lynch when he could have traded down with the Cowboys and took Dak later.

This is the internet. There is no embarrassment. He's an anonymous user on a message board. I'm also going under the assumption that he is a man, could very well be a woman.

He is just a name on a screen. Just like you, me, and everyone else here. Some people may know each other IRL but I would bet the majority have no idea who the other is. I know I don't.

I'm not defending his post, my comment was more about the last paragraph you wrote about being embarrassed about what he wrote.

You know 1 game into their rookie seasons that Watt should have been the pick over Taco?

Seriously? You're that much better at talent evaluation and projection than Will McClay and his supporting staff?

I mean, why should anyone doubt you, right? It's not like the Cowboys have drafted well over the past 5 years. It's not like they've earned any sort of benefit of the doubt. You were screaming at the TV, dang it! How could those dummies miss something that's so obvious to you?

Some of you guys need to step back and actually look at the things you're typing in these posts. Maybe read them out loud to yourselves so that you can actually hear the insanity in the claims you make. It'd spare you a lot of self-inflicted embarrassment.

If Lawrence, Irving, Tapper, Mayowa, and Moore are healthy.....is Taco even going to be active on game days?

Interesting.

What this also tells me is that Lawrence probably won't be back next year as he'll price himself out of the Cowboys plans.
