If you were Romo's Agent

Pro football is a business and players have agents who advise them how to maximise their career earnings. Here's what I think an Agent would advise based on the most likely scenarios.

1. Agent believes Romo wont be back in Dallas next season:

Would advise Romo to try and sit on the bench for the rest of the season. Benefits - allows him to fully heal, will be fresh for off season workouts with other teams. Most importantly nobody will find out if he's done. Some desperate team may pay top dollar for a season or two but wont find out if Romo is done until the 2017 season starts, by which time the guaranteed money is in the bank.

2. Agent believes Dallas is keeping him for 2017.

Similar advice to above. If he plays, he may play poorly prompting a change of mind.

Both 1 and 2 rely on Dak playing well so there is no reason to put Romo in.

3. Romo is retiring.

Agents advice - don't play - risk of bad injury. Collect your paycheck and sit on the bench.

I don't honestly believe Romo would like to sit out, but wives will often have a say and will usually align with the agent in avoiding injury for money.

It's moot, because Tony Romo wants to play football and is going to want to play as soon as he's physically able to do so.

Surely you've seen interviews with Romo re: how he approaches competitions and his career in general, Don? He's very consistent about it.

Maybe I'm wrong. We're a week or so away from hearing from Tony himself about it, but my strong suspicion is that he's really looking forward to being back and competing with a team he's legitimately excited about. And that he's got an overall very-healthy approach to competition with Dak and to how that makes both players better.

But maybe OP is right and his agent will convince him to retire.

I think all of that is fairly believable, frankly, for an agent giving advice to a client.

we've got a decade or so to look to showing what will happen. while fantasyland is fun and hey - i LOVE dak as much as anyone, romo will play when he's ready.

then again i didn't think we'd touch a RB in the 1st round.
