We are definitely financially better off by releasing him this year compared to next year. The signing bonus stuff is basically a sunk cost and will be accounted for regardless of whether he is waived this year or next year. What we will save is his base salary of $3.5M.
Money saved this year and not spent will be pushed forth to next year's cap and lessen the blow of all that "dead money" from the release of RW11/Bigg/Barber.
