Murray got ridden hard by his team yesterday and he left everything out there on the field. I'm not a huge Garrett supporter as it pertains to his game management, and player resource allocation management, but last night when he put in Randle for a series, Murray got a well needed rest. It was good to see him put Murray back in the game, and see Murray continue to pound the rock and leave it all out on the field. I am a little bit concerned that we are riding Murray so hard every game. Tired players get hurt. We need Murray for the stretch run. He needs a breather ever now and then.

I think ideally we are going to mix Randle in a bit more as the season goes on. Right now I think the team is trying to get a sense of how much load you can give the kid. Of course, it is super hard to take Murray out as he's an outstanding pass blocker.

Im totally down for subbing muarry for 1-2 series a game, if Dunbar and Randle can't handle that, then they should be replaced anyway.

I think they need to mix in a little more Randle, Murry has 99 attempts so far this year averaging almost 25 a game, the next highest is the Giants Jennings at 21.

Would be good to keep him at 20 or under for a long season.

If one believes in the "Curse of 370", then we need to keep him at 23 or fewer rushes a game. I'd love to see that number settle in around 20-21. Randle's doing just fine, getting over 6 ypc without a long run in there to skew the average, and no fumbles yet as a Cowboy. Don't know much about his pass protection ability.

The 370 curse has some validity but Murray's injury history is the most pressing concern, so I don't see him getting anywhere near 370 carries and nowhere near the current lofty projections of over 2100 yards. No way they get that without him going down for a week or two...maybe longer. They will not be quite the same on the ground without him. That said, even at 20 carries per game, that is still a lot of carries...not even counting playoff games, where post-season play could push him past 370. I do think that the style of the runner also plays into it, but you wonder why Barber and Peterson's careers have been so different, even though they both relish making contact with defenders. Barber was particularly violent.

I am also on board for getting the other TBs some carries to try to keep Murray healthy/fresh/not overused.

Murray is getting a heavy load right now but his conditioning is the best it's been since he's been a Cowboy. I get the feeling Romo will be more active as time and his endurance make it possible. If and when that comes about, DeMarco might naturally be leaned upon a little bit less. Also, Randle and Dunbar might take time to develop enough for the staff to place more confidence in them to be dealt more of the action.

I'm sure the soreness isn't anything totally new to Murray, though. He carried a very heavy share of the burden while playing at Oklahoma. I'm glad he's gotten himself into such exceptional condition this year, though. He'll need it to withstand the pounding of his expanded role.

Yes this is definitely something that worries me once they head into the 2nd half of the season. It would be smart to start having a guy with fresh legs come in for 5-10 carries a game.

Echo the rest here. Randle and Dunbar are on the roster for a reason. No need to have Murray on pace for yardage record breaking season with guys ready to help handle the load.

He is not getting hit 25 times. Two runs were TD and there were a whole bunch that saw him untouched by the line and be the one hitting the S in the secondary. I do think they need to play Randle and Dunbar more but i don't see him taking any big hits.

He is so smart about contact nowadays. He will push a pile with teammates there but if he is exposed and a LB or DL tries to stand him up he is so good at getting down and not taking those hits.

I do agree with the stamina thing. If he is going to run 5 times a series then they need to give him more than one series off a game. The are going to get at least 7 series a game.

I agree. Mix in a little more Randle and try to preserve Murray for the long haul.

He is a professional nfl rb tho. His conditioning is off the charts, I don't see that running him 5 extra plays in a game per week is somehow gonna wear him out?

For as much as Murray takes care of his body and is in top notch shape, I am sure he doesn't feel it as much as we think he does.

Listening to 105.3 The Fan, he reportedly had 87 yards rushing whereas he was not even touched. His other 62 yards came after contact. I doubt he was nicked up too much. ;)

Yea, it's tough to say. Everyone's so bent on quantifying every single aspect of the game nowadays, but in my opinion it really depends on how much damage Murray is absorbing, as opposed to the raw number of carries. And so far he seems to be running intelligently. And it's clear he's a well conditioned athlete who takes his craft seriously.

I have faith in his ability to be a workhorse, and I also believe the coaches will sub as needed as the season progresses.

If the plan is to continue rushing more, maybe we should consider 4 RB's on the roster. Other teams do it. Could pay off later in the year. I would to see one of these backs hurt at some point only to find out Ryan was signed off of our practice squad the week before and is not available to us.

Well, if the results are the same as last night, I hope Murray is sore every Monday (or day after game day) from here on out. He's a big boy and he wants the rock.
