I guess this is a good defense mechanism to protect yourself from the heartache. But in the end, I am sure all of you will be fired up as soon as Dallas becomes a team like Seattle or New Orleans or Patriots.

It is just embedded to your soul. No matter what you do, in the end you will go back to it and still be fired up. This is what being a fan is.

Some levity from a giant's fan??? Agree with you, Shunpike!
BTW, sure enjoyed our visit to your city. Ran into some very friendly, helpful folks. One question, if there are 12 million (?) folks around there, what do they do (no pun intended) with all the human "waste"?

I will soon be 60, .. that may never happen in my lifetime.

I can't say I blame the OP.

I'll be honest though I really don't relate to these things. I've always loved the Boys. Always watched and supported them. I'll talk about them any and every time possible.

But the fact is they have never controled any part of my life. My week isn't good or bad based on their W/L record. My life isn't put on hold for a Cowboys game. I've just never been wired that way.

I applaud the OP in this case for realising that there are more important things in his life to do with his energy then consume himself 100% of the time with being a Cowboys fan.

Prescribing to never getting too invested in following sports is strong medicine. So many other things are so much more important. I was very much like you describe and made the same life changes a couple of years ago. It's so much better when you temper your expectations and just enjoy whatever positives come about.

This is a very good description of my fandom, and I strongly agree with specifically the last sentence.

I've always enjoyed football season, and I've always enjoyed being a Cowboys fan. I like following and supporting the team, and watching the games and cheering them on. If I ever reached the point where my dissatisfaction with the team resulted in me harboring serious feelings of anger and resentment for Jerry, or the team, I would probably adopt a new hobby, because being a Cowboys fan would cease being enjoyable at that point. Granted, I don't see that happening any time soon, since I try to have what I consider reasonable expectations.

Yes, last night's game was an embarrassment. It sucks watching your team get handled like that. But, I'm not going to let it ruin my week, or even my day. It's done and over with. We only have 3 more guaranteed weeks of Cowboys football to enjoy this season. I'll look forward to watching those 3 games and hope we can still get some wins and clinch the division.

My thoughts exactly.

I am glad you enjoyed New York. Personally I am not a big fan of the city anymore. Too crowded for my taste. Took the kids to see the Christmas tree and they hated all the crowd and asked me to leave early. Your question is a good one but I have no answer for you. :)

I am with you. I have been a fan since '83, have not missed a game in the last 10 years, but will not bother to watch anymore. Starting with the Packers game, I will not watch anymore. Instead I will take my kids to a Xmas concert, less stress.

Be as upset as you want. For all the obvious reasons.
I know I was. Still am. Will be for quite some time so it seems.

But I cannot understand how one can want to change their teams because things are bad. Even if it's real bad.

The Dallas Cowboys are... THE DALLAS COWBOYS and even delusional owner Jerry, historically bad defense and debatable Romo can't change that.

Sooo... With that said. We have to enjoy the old great memories of Super Bowl wins... And that's it. That's all you can really do.

As a fan, leaving for another team is just silly to me.

Cowboys forever.... Win, lose or tie.

This set in for me about a year ago. As a fan of 35 years, Jerry Jones is doing a nice (albeit sad) job of making me uninterested in his product. Im soo tired of the embarrassing feeling nowadays of being a Cowboy fan; Jerry is a great businessman, but horrible NFL Exec. This organization owes every loyal fan an apology; I had more fun and interest during the 1-15 season. The organization no longer deserves nor has my loyalty till they earn it.

Can't disagree with ANY of this post: I didn't watch that game last night guys. First nationally televised game I've missed in over 30 years.Been a die hard fan since 1978 but it's just too much. The defense is a disgrace and Jones is a clown. I think they'll lose out. Feel sorry for Red.....he isn't the problem. Lame duck coaches never succeed any more than lame duck politiicans do: this is all on JJ.

I'm embarrassed to admit this but there was a time in the past when I'd get so upset after losses that I would call into work or skip school on Mondays, that's how wired into the team I was. I'm still emotionally invested into the team (not to that extent), I still watch every game to the bitter end, every Talkin' Cowboys, every Cowboys Break, every Legends Show, every video on that stinkin' site and every tweet or news clipping I read. But after last night, I think its time for me to take a step back. I felt ashamed last night. Not because of the Cowboys performance necessarily, but because I was putting off important stuff in MY LIFE to watch millionaires give half-*** effort in the 4th quarter. Not anymore. I've felt the apathy creeping on me the past year, I've tried to ignore it, but I think its time to accept the fact that my fandom for this franchise is waning every day that passes with Jerry Jones as GM. I'm going to take a step back as a fan of this franchise. I still enjoy posting here as CZ is a great forum, I'LL ALWAYS BE A COWBOYS FAN but I'll be making personal changes starting this week. Time to focus my energy elsewhere throughout the week b/c being a "fanatical supporter" of a Jones led franchise just isn't worth it anymore.

You're maybe a little over a year younger than I am so I know that most of your life has been filled with empty promises from a greasy salesman/wannabe GM. Very little success. All flash and no substance with only two real seasons to be excited about (2007,2009) but nothing really to show for it.

If you were anything like me, you were happier with a 17-3 win over the lowly Arizona Cardinals sealed by a Dexter Coakley pick-6 than with the product on the field today. At least those days I could wear my Cowboys gear proudly to class the next day.

Those Mondays were little slices of heaven. Now we endure 16 weeks of hell, win or lose-- it doesn't really matter. None of it's all that enjoyable anymore.

Fans like you and I deserve better. Everyone on this board deserves better.

The thing is, this is our choice to be in this position. Much like dumping an unhealthy relationship, we have the ability to dump this agonizing, unhealthy hobby.

Don't mistake this for being able to choose who or what you love. You and I both cannot do that. Nobody really can. I will always have a soft spot for this team.

But you can control how you interact. You can either focus on other things a bit more-- take a step back from all of this. Or you can just accept what the team is and try to find a silver lining.

My personal opinion is that, no matter how big of a fan you are, this team shouldn't be on your top 10 list of concerns. Don't let it get in the way of life. Any unproductive hobby that is overly time consuming isn't healthy. Moderation will do you wonders.

And you have to let go of the lost hours devoted. Wasting more time and effort won't get them back and it doesn't make you a better fan. It's a sunk cost now.

Just my two cents.

I agree with all of you, and the sad part is that fan base is moving slowly from an anger state to an indifference or apathetic point.... unfortunatelly Jerry is a bussinessman above all, and as long as his pockets gets full of money, he will not care if the Cowboys win or lose, just see the stadium packed may please his ego(maybe by tourists or ocasional fans with enough money, i don't know), but honestly i will not watch another Cowboys game this season, i love football but i prefer to watch other games, at least i'm not get so stressfull. (Sorry for my bad english) saludos desde Mexico!!

I went from "rabid fan" growing up, to "die-hard fan" w/ JJ & theTriplets, to "interested fan" after Jerruh's initial takeover, to "disgusted fan" after years of Turnover Tony and the revolving Clown Show- and now I'm right there at "disinterested/apathetic" fan w/ most everyone else.
As long as Jerruh owns this team and continues w/ this business model, we will not see better days at Valley Ranch. I learned to accept that years ago....and now I'm resigned to it. :(

I haven't let the games effect me one way or another every since Jerry let Wade come back for his last season. It was clear to me at that point he didn't care. And then he went and promoted his boy that was apart of the problem.

Right there with you, Zordon. I've got a big decision to make this year, not sure that I'll be holding onto my season tickets. This team is just such a poor investment of time and money.

Section 444? What does that cost like $20 a game? Cmon man. Youre basically paying to watch the big tv.... Cant see the field, they look like ants

Agreed. But this is what scares me: Do you really think things will get better if Jerry's (potential) heir to the throne, Stephen Jones, takes over? Honestly, I don't see that situation being any better. And by that point we're potentially talking about 30+ years...

We'll find out when it happens, but I'd have to think the younger Jones will learn what NOT to do by watching his old man. The Cowboys need an intervention, alot like what the NYG went through in the 70's when the league stepped in and appointed George Young as their GM. I grew up in NY and the fight within the Mara Family had turned the team into a laughing stock. After Young went in and stopped the dysfunction, they returned to being a viable franchise.
The problem w/ Jerruh isn't on the same level obviously, but if the son takes over, steps back & hires a "football guy" to revamp the operation, maybe we'll get back to winning Super Bowls again. I hope I'm around to see it.

I simu don't get mad anymore. Just switch from last to shaking my head. I will always love my team. But no reason to be mad anymore.
