I've spent months reading about how we are a .500 team that is not playoff bound. We supposedly will finish 3rd in the division. The Giants walk on water. They will likely win the division and finish about 12-4. That's what a majority of the "experts" seem to spew.

Now here it is Week 2 and, somehow, we're 3 point favorites over the mighty Giants. You get about three points for being the home team, so I guess that makes the teams about even - at least in Vegas' eyes. The BSPN "experts" are split right down the middle about who wins (not even with a spread mind you).

My point is that, mediots love to spew their hate and negativity about Dallas because it's fun and it sells. But when it comes down to it, people know that these are two good football teams and there is not some huge disparity between one of the league's "elite" and the despised Cowboys.

"Embrace the hate" and laugh at the hypocricy.

Vegas sets the line to get equal action on each side of the betting line. It has nothing to do with who they think will win.

The mediots are merely a bunch of tools for the tabloid-media that passes for sports news reporting today. Nothing but a bunch of suckups and sell-outs.

Whats confusing? Most people thought Romo would look bad week one with no TO and a bunch #2 and #3 type Wrs. He didn't, the offense looked really good, and most people will assume the defense will improve. Put those together and Dallas looks to be a better team than most were expecting.

I know. I guess I should have left the word "gamblers" that I had originally written, but I thought "Vegas" was kinda understood. Ok, so "gamblers" feel that the Cowboys are 3 point favorites. Gamblers who are actually putting money on the game, and who often do more research than these so-called experts. The point is still the same.

So they have all done a 180 based on the Week 1 performance against the Leftwich-led Bucs? Doesn't say much for their insight or credibility does it?

It's not as simple as you might think. The fact that the Giants secondary is in shambles comes into play as do other injuries. The fact that Romo played extremely well in week 1 is also a consideration. There are many, many factors when establishing a point spread.

This is PRECISELY one of the reasons I could care less what the media says in the "power rankings" - they are completely worthless.

IMO/FWIW.

Carry on.

I agree. Injuries and last weeks performance certainly weigh into the spread heavily. It's just that one would think that the Giants could roll out of bed and sleepwalk through this game, regardless of a few injuries, after reading all the preseason crap.
I think the pendulum swung so far back in the other direction (this offseason) after Dallas' disappointing '08 season that it was ridiculous. Maybe we were not all we were hyped up to be last year, but we're certainly not as ordinary as many have made us out to be this year.

The bottom line for us is......we were never as good as advertised last year and we're not as bad as advertised this year.

Just play the damn games and don't listen to the idiots who know no more than most of us here about the game of football.

I believe that health-willing, the Dallas Cowboys are as good as they come in the NFL. And I'm not afraid to say it.

When you consider that in 2008 we lost road games to both Super Bowl participants that we should've/could've won... well, that tells me all I need to know about our team's potential.

As in: we have a lot of it.

Throw out the 3 games Romo missed last year. Without Romo, we're not the Dallas Cowboys.

Even with all the problems and other injuries we suffered last year, we were an 8-5 team with Romo leading the way. That's equivalent to 10-6 in a 16 game season, and keep in mind we play in the NFC Beast. Arizona matched our 9-7 record in the cupcake NFC West, and that was good enough for them to earn a division title. And they were good enough to come *this* close to winning the Super Bowl. They'd be the "standard" today if it weren't for Santonio Holmes' terrific catch.

As for the supposedly "superior" New York Giants, we played them once last year in a game with Romo, and spanked them 20-8. Most of us are now aware that Romo is now 4-0 against the Giants in the regular season. That's no accident. I said earlier in the week that I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas wins by 20 on Sunday night, and I stand by that.

Yes, I consider the playoff loss to have been a major fluke. We outgained them and outplayed them that day... but in the crazy world that is the NFL, the better team doesn't always win. And Wade was right: the better team lost that game. There are certain times in a football game where you've just gotta make a play, and we simply didn't do it that day. What if Alvin Harper had dropped that slant from Aikman, the way Crayton dropped that 3rd and 14 gem from Romo? Or what if Vinatieri missed from 40+ yards in the swirling blizzard in the "tuck rule" game?

So that's my piece. Am I a homer? Yeah, maybe a little. But you just can't convince me that there are teams out there that are "superior" to the Cowboys.

Is it just me? C'mon, it can't be.

I agree 100% with everything you said Sarge, but it's easier said than done. Especially living here in Jersey. Nothing but hate from Giants fans and from the media. It wears on you a bit. I'm looking forward to the Cowboys opening this Stadium up the right way and kicking Jacobs and those trash-talkers all the way back here to Jersey!

Trust me, I live in New York - I know exactly what you're saying.

We'll get the job done tonight - I have a feeling.

Sorry, but I don't have the time or the energy to tell you where babies come from. Even more confusing is why a locked gameday thread already has 18 views.

Exactly, especially when they all said the Bucs would be an absolutely horrible team.

I'm with you, I'm surprised at how many people are picking us to win.

Actually Berman and all of his band of merry idiots (especially Tom Jackson) took the Giants in the game tonight. All five of them. I can't wait for their explanation afterwards.
