Did we get a "sure-fire Pro Bowler" (how many of these actually pan out).. No we didn't. But hey guess what, we have a number of guys with big names and lots of glamor. Tony Romo, Demarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Tyron Smith, Demarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne. We have a TON of flashy, wow factor talent. But guess what we have been lacking all these years.. people to do the DIRTY WORK.
Travis Frederick is a tank in the trenches for the running game, and best of all he is a guy with a mean streak. This guy will come in and be an instant upgrade over our atrocious interior line. Do we have other needs? Of course. I for one am ecstatic to see that management is making a FOCUSED effort on shoring up our trenches! We know what Romo can do, we know what Murray can do, we know about the great passing weapons we have. Guess what we had the most pathetic offensive line in the league last year, it was downright embarrassing. Bolstering our offensive line makes EVERYONE better. We upgrade our line, we upgrade our run game, we upgrade our pass game, and we damn well upgrade our defense. Everything starts in the trenches, and it is disgusting to see that many of you are falling into the mirage of flash.
To put this very shortly and I know that was an unorganized rant --
The Dallas Cowboys picked up a guy that they clearly targeted, that they feel would be an asset to our team, and most of all shows the direction this franchise is headed.
Did they get the best value? Maybe, maybe not. Just as Shariff Floyd was expected to be a top 5 pick, who cares he ended up being a late first rounder. Frederick was expected to be a 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder? Who cares, we got a guy that our scouts and coaches believe in. On top of that we add a 3rd round pick, which in this draft is plenty valuable.
The fact that we picked Frederick with this pick instead of a guy like Lacy or Hunter makes me hyped about the direction this team is headed. I can't wait to see him wearing a star on his helmet and pancaking some DT's to pave the way for our backs so they can actually get past the line of scrimmage and make some plays.
