You can't judge the Cowboys' talent evaluators solely on the players acquired, but that is of course the most obvious method, and the only one that really matters in terms success and failure on the field. The hidden element to the talent evaluation process is evaluating players that we wanted (but didn't get) and passing on players that the draft gurus said were top notch players we should have taken, but passed on.

In the last draft we coveted the DT Richardson, who turned out to be a huge hit. Bobby Wagner was on our radar and he has turned out to be a pretty good player. We passed on Floyd last year who is arguably a bust so far (at least at the value of the pick we would have taken him at). We moved up to get Lee. IIRC we also traded up to get Dez too. At least our ability to evaluate talent seems to be pretty good.

We also seem to be doing a great job securing players off the scrap heap and getting decent production out of them

Only challenge is that there are not enough #2s contributing to this team. dallas needs to hit every year with their 1st and 2nd round picks and they are not.

Escobar made some plays this year and last night a spectacular catch and flip for aTD, Lee and Carter are starters but Lee cant stay healthy (as with the entire defense lately) I would say the past 4 years our 2nd round players have contributed.

So what you talkin bout willis

It's not that they can't evaluate players talent but that they keep picking the wrong posititions generally speaking. We keep drafting flash, when we should be building the team from the trenches out.

Agree.

The problem that I see is that they way they setup their draft board, OL and DL are rarely the BPA outside of the 1st round.

They might be doing a great job of evaluating players at each individual position; however, the process to evaluate a TE vs a DLineman seems to be a problem.
