I'm excited about this season

I don't see why they can't be top class still. Even if it's not quite as lethal as last year, they still have the same coaching staff on that side. Dak and Pickens were apparently working together to get even better. Lamb is still as good as ever likely. It's another year in a system that still looks creative. So, as long as they stay healthy, they should still be able to be top class. The only area of offense that I can see that would cause any slippage would be probably the tackles, and one of the sides is likely to have a season long battle. So, that can only mean good things at RT oif they stay healthy.

I'm concerned with LT and QB (against good teams that is, when the game is on the line...not in grbg-time)

And then of course I'm concerned about our historically soft defense. We see every year with lots of teams, that adding names doesn't always make a bad defense better
.so much about defense is the attitude of the team. The main leader on this team, the one whose moth ball smelling essence permeates every fiber of this team, is the same person as last year.

I'm not worried about Dak. I still think he's a top 10 QB. As for defence, it's not about the names perse, as what I think they bring. I like what Parker's system has produced in his previous stops. Downs is likely to be the best safety we've had....well, probably since the 90s. And I like what we've done with our front 7 and CBs. I think it'll take a couple games to get everyone in gear, but I think the defence will be significantly better than last year. So, to me, the one area is LT, and I think if they could sign Beachum, that would shore up that side nicely. If they can do that, I think that our offseason would be just about bangon perfect.

The potential issue in my mind is them being just good enough defensively to offset the offensive downgrade and not good enough to really make the team better overall. It still might make for an 8 win type of year with one side of the football improving and the other sliding a few spots.

yeah for once i’m feeling like a blind homer and much more optimistic. last season was disastrous and everything that could’ve went wrong seemed to and they STILL were right at that mendoza line. if things just don’t go wrong i already feel they’ll be markedly better. and if they goe right…? whew

Understand but optimism isn’t necessarily predicated on recent history and current trends.

Optimism to me should be more prevalent when you’ve had recent success which can be built on and added to.

We are in a situation where we have to build that confidence and momentum. Until we do I’d promote a more wait and see approach. Eyes wide open on edge of your seat waiting to applaud when that success begins to unfold.

Remember only the players , coaches , etc
have to have that optimistic outlook. Fans aren’t required to believe they can win without proven history.

I think it’s more reasonable to be a homer this year though, compared to the last two seasons.

At least this year there is a path of if A/B/C fall our way we have a real chance to make a championship game. I just wish the cowboys were a little more aggressive to make AB and C a higher percentage of Achievability.

The last couple seasons even seeing the path seemed difficult.

yeah if we’re being rationale, but clearly that’s not the intent. in fact, it’s the opposite of what you’re talking about and because if the years of futility and heartbreak just being thirsty for hope and excitement. i’m all for latching on to it because dutiful misery sucks
 
We do this every year. I remember 15 years ago, Mickey Spagnola would literally talk down to and bad mouth anyone talking bad about the Cowboys. 15 years later, we're still right. Do I like most of the moves, yep. Do I think it's going to make a difference? History says no, but we'll see.

That's certainly fair. On my end, I was not bought in the previous two years, but I am for this season.
