No, it IS possible, because I DIDN"T WATCH ONE SECOND OF TV for OVER fifteen years.

Why is that so impossible for you to fathom?

TV wasn't even available until the fifties. What did ALL THOSE PEOPLE who lived for EONS OF TIME do before 1953?

Between 1983 and 1998, I NEVER watched ONE SECOND of television! I visited, read, worked out, etc................and couldn't even be bothered with such a trivial thing as television.

Your amazement and shock at such a concept only proves the point of the book I referred to. The idea of NOT watching the boob tube only adds to the idea of "a nation of sheep". With all the annuls of human history, and TV only being around for 50-some years, some people can't imagine life without it.

I concede the addage: 78 channels and NOTHING on....................
Given your general demeanor and world view, I'd say it's certainly believable that you didn't watch television for 15 years. Hell, I'd go so far as to say I'd believe it if you said you were locked in a bunker with no contact but a goat for 15 years.

This from a guy who is, as we speak, "vegetating online" to post his thoughts......

I`m not sitting here basically implying that not watching tv is great but that being online is fine.

Another thing.............

You could stop reading newspapers and stop watching TV for 30 years, and not miss a damn thing.

It's the same stories, only the names and places have changed.

People aren't interested in "dog bite's man". That's not entertaining or newsworthy. "Man bites Dog"?.............................IS!!

The very nature of "news" is the oddball, the different, the "out of the ordinary". If a man wakes up at 6:00, goes to work, works hard, comes home, kiss's the wife and kids, takes the kids to practice, eats dinner, goes to bed................that ain't "news".

If that same man does all that, and then shoots the wife before bed.......THAT'S NEWS!!

And that's the kind of crap that people line up to hear and see. No one is interested in the guy who works two jobs to feed his family. But, if that guy "snaps" and kills his boss.....................oh boy, get out the popcorn and line up for the show. Because THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

I don't care if it's the 1,800's, the 60', the 80's, or the year 2009. The stories are all the same. Murder, death, disease, war, contention, divorces, jail sentences, bankruptcies, etc, etc, etc...................THAT's 95% of your newspaper and TV News. And, that's what makes TV go around. That, and stupid and silly "sitcoms" that have nothing to do with real life.

Take, for example, the hit TV show "Friends". Six single people, all living in swank quarters in Manhattan, and making babies left and right out of wedlock.....................and ALL IS WELL!! Nothing to do with real life for REAL people living in NY City. Or "Cheers". A big hit TV show (so I hear). Everyone visiting the same bar every night, all charming and decent, well adjusted folks who are funny and harmless................Have you been to your local pub lately and have actually seen the "regulars"? PLEASE!!!!! A bunch of dangerous people, drunks with nowhere else to go and nothing better to do.

TV is full of ****.

so how did you feel missing the Cowboys SBs during that time period, must have hurt knowing they were on tv and not seeing them. You never even got to see the triplets in action.

Oh no................

I went to other peoples houses who were stupid enough to have television, and conveniently used their services to not miss a game.

Then, I went home and read something.................

Then your claim is false.

If you've watched any part of a Cowboys game on television during that time, then you've watched TV. To which we ALL knew you did.

However, if you adjust your claim to not OWNING a TV and only watching the 'boys at friends' homes, then that would sound a bit more accurate.

Well, a man's gotta' have a little "*****" in him. OK, I admit it. I'm a prostitute for Cowboy games. Sue me. I confess.............

Being a monk is a hard thing to pull off. I got away with it for the most part. I also confess to watching a few game-7's of the NBA finals and the World Series too.............

But, IMO, that's not "TV". THAT'S REQUIRED VIEWING, and I had no choice.

But, hand on the Bible, I swear that "only the ball games" at the bar or at another's house was my only indulgence for 15 years....................

And Cheers. My recollection is bad, but I think that show came on between 1983 and 1998.

Alright, I see where this is going...............

Listen, you're a couple of rabbit-ear TV zombies who can't reconcile that anyone doesn't see the world through your 3-D TV glasses.

Attack the messenger all you want in between commercials. And define your family life around the Brady Bunch and Cosby until the cows come home. If TV is you Bible for life, have at it.

As I said before. It's only use is for the ball-games, races, and a movie or two I missed at the theater. Other than that, is poison for that lump of gray matter that's three feet above your arse....................

I watched Friends until they all started hooking up because the whole concept of the show was that they were "friends" even though my theory is that men and women can never just be friends because one will want to do it with the other at some point

I don't even have cable or a hooked up TV where I live so the only TV I watch is at other people's houses. My living arrangement sucks right now.

I'll go to my parents and let the dogs out and catch a little TV then or on a Sunday afternoon. When I get my own apartment I'll have every channel they make.
